I would have been a little more efficient, but it looks like you got everything. Nice quality on the video too.

Thx. Yea, I was a bit distracted. Forgot I had grabbed the two orbs. Changed my mind to clear the lower area with what energy I had ... that kinda thing.
I'd like to do each level except I can't stand lvl 18.

I don't believe you. That's the most fun level in the game for perpetual fusioning.
Maybe a remix will make the fusion-less torture easier for you.
phaaa.. Don't need it, nor do I generally like it.
I like the D1 music fine actually. Always have. But listening to music makes focusing on the game more difficult for me when things get hairy.
...not that level 1 is exactly taxing my skill... I nearly always turn off music after I play through a game once.

Said Duper, completely ignoring the rest of Fox's post.
Have you ever tried finishing that level using only Fusion cannon? If you can try it (you have to post a video or at least a demo as proof) and honestly say that you still don't like it, you will get...
will get...
a medal or something.

uh, I've NEVER started that level with fusion. I'd really rather not turn on the cheats. I've had my fun with those. ...a DECADE ago.

You could just play level 17 first ...
If you were intending a cold start run you should have said so, it's very ambiguous when I only have a run of the first level to judge that.

needs cockpit mode
needs music
you joystick players fly so oddly
wouldnt this be better suited for DEMOs?
insted of all the vid capturing and uploading to YT?
(then we can view with cockpit and music too)

can't stand CP mode. Feels like I have fingerprints on my glasses. I had to unplug the stick. It was cause problems in other games and general mouse usage. ...both are Saitek products.
and YES BUBBA .. I know. I can't afford CH products. ;D
the music. I turned it off so folks that ran across the vid (yeah, right ..ha hah..) could hear the sound FX and not all music. I seldom play with music anyways. too much going on.
LightWolf wrote:7 Minutes!? You're insane!
uh... why? Too long? I take my time. I enjoy the game. I guess you'd wolf down cheese cake too huh? (no pun intended there)
You want a speed run, go talk to CajunAce.

huh? no.. I was just meaning to do the first level, nothing more, nothing less. I enjoy the first 7 levels any ways. not much beyond that.

Good to know that I'm not the only one who thoroughly enjoys D1 midi music. Pumo will also be hoppin' in, so that makes three of us
BTW what did you record it with?

hrm.. iirc, it was something silly like Windows movie maker or some such. I'm at work right now, I'll see what I have on my system when I get home. I don't have a copy of FRAPS. Just lazy.

I thought the Movie Maker was for editing movie footage, not for recording it. Oh, we learn stuff all the time

Same. I wouldn't have bought Fraps if I knew windows movie maker could record.

I was also making a demo for folks that weren't familiar with Descent. I've never been much of a braggart so chest banging over speed runs has never been my thing.
I was also half asleep so I was forgetting silly things like if I had picked up those shield orbs.

Sorry, Duper, I saw a challenge so I accepted.

You know seeing those times and realizing that I never once completed all of D1 legitimately makes me very ashamed.

Yikes. I don't have that kinda time on my hands.

I mean a run where - if you insist for a no-death run - you would only load at the beginning of a level. Treat is as one level-one checkpoint. The later levels are pretty large and hard, so I imagine this would get frustrating real fast.

I know, I know! But back in the days when I first got the Definitive Collection, I was too young to have any idea how to properly play a DOS game, and then when I tried the old versions of D1X much later, the accelerated framerate was so bad that I literally couldn't evade homers, so I was never able to progress past a certain point. It'll happen sooner or later; lord knows that Retrovirus got the 6DOF itch going again.

Homing missiles are reasonably possible to dodge in current versions of D1 (Rebirth, mainly). It is set to become more possible with some adjustments to the code to correct a couple bugs that make them still track a little harder than they should.

Check my "going rambo" thread. I just posted an all kills run of level 1 this morning on YouTube.

My CH Collection which is used on 2 separate PC's has been a very slow and painful acquisition over the years, except for "Descent" single player I do not use the full CH Hotas layout in Descent 1/2/3

Bubba plays a lot of flight sims and flight combat sims. The old MS sticks aren't the best for those. Nice console setup.
