It would seem El Presidente for life Bashar Assad of Syria is as self delusional as Good ole' Mo was.The Rebels are nothing but a bunch of rabble etc etc. What with:

1) Syria's Defense minister offed at the Damascus security headquarters (good security eh?)

2) A total of 20 Syrian generals have fled to Turkey

So when do you think the light bulb pops on and Bashar "Bash'n" Assad realizes now is a good time to be getting out? Any bets in a month or two we see Assads corpse loving displayed by the worthless rabble? It never ceases to amaze me that these guys (Assad et al) never understand they can't win even when their senior official are either getting whacked or fleeing the country.

It will be interesting to see what Iran does when it's clear Assad is done.

So everyone hates Assad and he's a scumbag to his own people and it would be better if he were overthrown. No argument there. But think long and hard about what friendly or unfriendly to the West political faction might be put in place when he's finally gone. The U.S. used to be his ally, and the locals may just remember that the West supported Assad in the past, before he became a pariah. Remember, this is a mostly Muslim country. ThunderBunny probably has an inkling.

When was the US ever Syria's ally? I can remember way back when his father was in charge and Syria controlled the Bakaa valley in Lebanon and promoted civil unrest there. Remember the Marine baracks? Syria, along with Iran, were suspected as being behind the attack. That was 1983. So again, when were we allied with Syria?

My mistake. I should have said "Ally of convenience", especially for a few terrorist renditions during the Bush Administration, where "torture" wasn't "illegal". Bush and the Obama administrations refused to apologize to Arar, who was found innocent and cleared by both Canada AND Syria, although AFTER he went through that Syrian "rendition" nightmare of course.
