Gunman in Sikh temple attack was white supremacist

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) - Before he strode into a Sikh temple with a 9mm handgun and multiple magazines of ammunition, Wade Michael Page played in white supremacist heavy metal bands with names such as Definite Hate and End Apathy.

The bald, heavily tattooed bassist was a 40-year-old Army veteran who trained in psychological warfare before he was demoted and discharged more than a decade ago.

I find it interesting that they are calling this a domestic terrorism act. Guess it is safe to do so as the shooter had white supremacist tatoos. OTOH hand when Major Hassan cried Allahu Akbar before shooting dozens of people at Fort Hood, the press labeled it an act of a man with psychological problems. Couldn't have the impression a Muslim terrorist did the shooting now could we.

"Terrorism" becomes a meaningless word when you talk about nutjobs causing tragedies like this. If you go by the strict definition, any mass shooting is something that instills terror in the general population, no matter the original motives of the shooter. Call it whatever you like, but it's still equally horrible.

Yeah I wouldn't call it terrorism either. To me, terrorism implies politically motivated psychological warfare. To the best of my knowledge, white supremacists don't have their own political platform in the US. Yes you can call this act "political," but I feel it's more xeno'phobic than anything. A hate crime for sure, but not terrorism. Shooting Gabrielle Giffords is terrorism in my eyes, gunning down Sikhs is not. So sad. The Sikh religion is one of the most peaceful, loving religions there are. It's a damn shame.

simmer down folks, and listen to some real news sources(or read them). It was merely assigned to the FBI domestic terrorism division because:
1. This was too complex for the locals to investigate(shooter had passed through several states in recent years)
2. That was the unit best equipped to investigate, as opposed to Fraud or Smuggling or other possibles.

NPR has been emphasizing this point since the get-go, that it was merely a matter of assignment, not any sort of description of the crime itself.
