Descent 3 Won't Install

So I got a new laptop. I have Windows 7 Professional x64 on it and am trying to install Descent 3. However, whenever I hit the Setup.exe program from my CD, nothing happens. I see SETUP.EXE *32 in Windows Task Manager, but nothing is happening. Don't know why I am having this problem as I've been able to install D3 on other PC's using W7 x64. I tried restarting and running in compatibility mode and as administrator, but still no luck. Any of you run into this problem over the years, and what is the solution?

The only time I've seen that, an audio driver issue was preventing the installer from playing its sounds. Otherwise, the installer has always worked just fine on Win7 x64.

Using windows 7 resource monitor you can sometimes figure out what is causing a program to stall, or at least it will help you narrow down the cause.

I ended up trying Safe Mode. It worked fine from there. Now I just have to figure how to get 1920x1080 working correctly. I found out DirectX is a no go. Artifacts like crazy. OpenGL works though.

Have you downloaded updated video/audio drivers? 99.9% of the time, this will fix any issues you're having.

I have a GeForce GTX 680M and a Core i7 3610QM (Intel HD Graphics 4000). Whether I select Direct3D or OpenGL, Descent 3 always seems to want to run from my integrated graphics, even when I select Descent 3 to run from my GeForce via right clicking the shortcut. Both my integrated graphics and my GeForce have the latest drivers. Direct3D gives artifacts in gameplay and has warped menus. Fortunately, OpenGL works perfectly fine. Also, I figured out how to get widescreen working. In Misc. in the Setup menu, I put "-width 1920 -height 1080 -aspect 1.333" in the command line. Using my native aspect ratio makes the ship cockpick look weird, so I decided to use the 1.333 aspect ratio the game was programmed with.

A problem I still don't have a solution for is how to change the resolution of the menu screen to 1920x1080. It is some very low 4:3 resolution at the moment. Whenever I switch between menu and in game, my computer has to reset its resolution, which can sometimes cause a black screen on either the menu or the briefing due to a failed switch. Using patch 1.5 by the way.

Couple of things:

Menu is hard-coded to 640x480. Can't change it.

The black screen is a known OpenGL bug (specific to NVidia) when switching to menu or a score screen. Can't fix it, at least not for a 680M.

Must also be a bug for Intel's integrated graphics. According to my GPU-Z sensors, Descent 3 doesn't even touch my dedicated GPU. Only my integrated graphics are used.
