Looks like the blades are raised out of the water for maintenance or something.

per the topic title, how is that even a sub?

thats actually a pretty cool looking device.......how do they raise it that far above the water though? or are they controlling the tides?

They are that far above the water because when the polar ice caps melt water levels will come up to the blades are at thus providing green energy by climate change.

Then this "green" solution can get to work on chopping baby sea turtles, which is what it runs on as well as water current.

Take a look, they raise the entire mechanism along the tower:

Looks like it would require lots of expensive up-keep (keeping it clean and functional) and cost more per unit than something like a wind turbine.

I think my baby owl/kitten/puppy powered generator works the best.

Give it time PETA will say they kill the helpless fish and they need to shut them off..... and the sad thing is they would.

Well if you were a helpless fish you might have a different perspective on that.

I don't think they spin fast enough to hurt anything, to be honest.

Actually plain old wind turbines spin fast enough that some of the regular maintenance is cleaning/repairing the blades because they cut birds in half and get bugs stuck to them. The tips move at upwards of 200 MPH on the bigger ones, so they really are death blades in a manner of speaking.

It does sort of fascinate me that birds, which tend to have reasonably-good eyesight across the spectrum, manage to thwack into freakin' huge turbine blades on a regular basis. Then again, deer still haven't gotten over the sheer stupidity of running across four-lane highways...

Deer logic: see the car way up there and wait, then when the car is near jump out in front of it - it's the best way to make sure you don't get hit.

Actually deer logic works like this: its easier to evade a rapidly closing predator by running across its path rather than taking the time to turn and run away from it.

It is just unfortunate for the rest of us that this logic does not work on automobiles.

Not to mention the deer. But I was going to eat it anyway.

That makes sense, though one wonders why the Big Scary Fast-Moving Things with Lights on Them don't scare deer away from heavily-traveled roads in the first place. :P

I think they do most of the time. That's why there are still so many deer left.
But sometimes the deer has to cross the road because of some territorial thought pattern thing, or maybe finding a mate, and then the trouble starts. Unless I ate the deer first. Then it's never scared of anything anymore.

I don't know. I've seen them get almost all the way across the road to the side the car is on, then decide to do a 180 right back into the path of the car. If they'd just kept going, they would have avoided getting smacked. Deer brains.

I have a little fun with them in my neighborhood. If I see one coming towards my yard from a neighbor's yard and they don't see me, I crouch down and wait behind some bushes. When they come by, I jump up and growl. They will always panic with all four legs slipping every which way on the hard pavement trying to flee. Kinda looks like Bambi on ice. I'm hoping one will have a heart attack or something. Nothing but disease infested giant four legged rats here anyway.

They've always run, usually very fast in the opposite direction, even the bucks. One time, I didn't make a sound, only crouched down, and they still freaked out and ran. Damn near died of laughter at the sight. But if they don't run, I run.......into the close by refuge of the garage.
