A thread for your voting experience. In my case went in around 2:30 pm and there was no line to speak of. In my district you have to fill out a short form and sign it. You then present this form AND your drivers license to the poll workers. They then check their list and check you off as having voted. Seems like a good straight forward way to maintain voter integrity.

Ballot is a paper one and you blacken in the appropriate circles. Then you feed it thru some sort of optical reader. I kinda like this way as the electronic part tabulates the votes but there is a paper backup in case something appears fishy (you know...like people pushing Romney on the straight electronic machines and Obama shows as who you voted for)

I asked the poll work how turn out was compared to 2008 and he said they were experiencing more voters. At any rate in a few more hours we'll know the results. Kinda of interesting how the libs are saying not to trust the exit polls when in 2004 they were predicting a huge Kerry landslide. Back then of course the main streamers were ecstatic reporting such. If you haven't already get out there and vote...don't listen to Mr "I Don't Care" vision.

just voted with my wife an hour ago. For mid-day, turnout was high. Even more surprising was the number of young people and people of color who were voting. My district isn't chock full of either(I was state committeeman from the district, so I sort of know). Whether my experience reflected any trends or just a different look as I now vote earlier in the day than when I was working, I don't know.

My wife and I will be voting after work today. Being in a "swing state" (Colorado), it'll be interesting to see.

Tsk, tsk Grendel. The choices we have may suck, but you could have at least done a protest vote and stirred up the mix. And there are a few local issues that may affect you too. We DO have vote my mail, AND if you're cheap, there are convenient drop boxes.

Sorry, I should have mentioned -- I would love to vote but currently I can only do that in German elections :/ There's a strong probability I will be able to next time around.

I did early voting in person on Friday. There were maybe three people in line. They asked for my full name, birthday, address of registration, and signature. Our ballots were fill in the bubble. I've heard from people here who put off voting until today that the lines are much worse now.

Yep! Early voting was very easy and nice. The polling place (a church) even offered cookies to the voters.

I and my wife voted around 3:00. Had to show photo ID and fill out card with name and address. Then they gave us a card that looked like a 3 1/2 inch floppy which you fed into the machine and voted on a touchscreen. I was surprised to see that every local politician here was running unopposed but I was going to vote for all local incumbents anyways.

Dragged myself to the polling place after a busy first day at a new job, done. Signed the poll book which is the new thing here, did not have to present ID yet (they are still working on that one in the courts).

I had to wait until my mom got home, and I was a bit concerned I wouldn't have time to stand in line before needing to do some tutoring work tonight (because why would my state have a handy thing like early voting?), but I managed to squeak it in. A judge overturned the mandatory ID requirement for this election, so I didn't technically have to show my license, but everyone seemed to anyway, and I figured it was easier than having to spell out my last name. Our electronic machines are a bit more low-tech: you get a little card saying you're a valid voter that you hand to the one official, then they power up the booth for you. I still don't entirely trust the damn things, since there's absolutely no paper trail involved...hell, even an ATM gives you a receipt.

No sticker though.

Voted early on Saturday, had to wait in line for over an hour - ballot process similar to what woodchip described. Damn Republicans here in Florida cut the early voting period from two weeks (in 2008) down to only one week (supposedly to combat voter fraud - whatthefuckever).

Voted late (~6PM) yesterday. Almost zero lines, I assume because of the time of day. Presented ID (Colorado has had this in place for a while). After being asked "paper or electronic?" (that's new, I think), chose electronic, which also printed a paper copy of my elections for review.

Quick and easy.

The "paper copy" thing really should be a requirement for electronic systems.

heh... I didn't even know there was an election until after it happened; I figured that's what people were babel-ing about. The fact that people would consider Mitt Romney or George Bush as qualified to be president ...or even intelligent... is alarming. People who are supposedly men of intellect insisted that Bush was somehow "better" back in 2000, even people in d3 chat. We've all done it. Worst thing ppl had on Obama was the teleprompter thing, and that was just laziness. Also, Mitt Romney, George Bush, and Sarah Palin are probably just pretending to be stupid (Machiavellian?).

I don't think these guys think they know what they're talking about. I think they just say things they know are preposterous just to laugh at the amount of people who "agree" with it.

They are all a bunch of Judas Goats. Looks like we will be losing Ron Paul in Congress too. I think he might have been the last voice of dissension in that whole place.

After I voted last time and learned the error of my ways, I vowed never again. Sad when too many citizens are too blind, naive, ignorant, and emotionally unstable to be vigilant enough to fight tyranny. I'm just thankful that our founding "fathers" are long dead so they won't see the horror that is the American republic.
