Post by roid »

Replacing missing limbs with something... rather different.

Tentacle arm,
designed by Kaylene Kau.

Nadya Vessey's mermaid tail,
to replace her below-knee missing legs, designed by the famous WETA workshop.

Aimee Mullins' digitigrade cat legs
she had in the art-house film Cremaster 3. (below knee amputations).
It's hard to find suitable pics to embed since the character is always naked. Anyway, she does walk around in the film a bit, the legs are functional.

Here she is in a youtube video (NSFW WARNING: topless).

Bladerunners.
We've all by now seen the Flex-Foot Cheetah type legs used by runners, the ones that use a large single carbon fibre spring to replace the calf and foot.

I look at that first one and think, "My God, Japan, what have you wrought?"

well this thread never really went anywhere. So i'll just shove whatever in here. This one is pretty far from INhuman, so doesn't really fit the original purpose of the thread, no - this prosthetic is quite human indeed.

The arm is called the bebionic V3, or bebionic 3 (by UK biomedical company RSLSteeper, the RSL stands for Rehabilitation Services Ltd - and i have no idea what Steeper means, no really i had a look around for a while and still couldn't figure it out)
Came across it today somehow, it's pretty cool. Video is only 3 weeks old, this is pretty new stuff.

some more vids here.

I think this next one is the previous version of arm, version 2 (i'm not sure what's been upgraded, it looks similar to me). Just a cool video coz he has no natural hands and has instead TWO of these robot arms.
