Obama Care in Job Out

So what has been forewarned is now becoming reality. With Obama Care now assured companies will start bleeding jobs. Hope you all are not one of those losing their job because of the new health care scheme:

Welch Allyn

Welch Allyn, a company that manufactures medical diagnostic equipment in central New York, announced in September that they would be laying off 275 employees, or roughly 10% of their workforce over the next three years. One of the major reasons discussed for the layoffs was a proactive response to the Medical Device Tax mandated by the new healthcare law.

Dana Holding Corp.

As recently as a week ago, a global auto parts manufacturing company in Ohio known as Dana Holding Corp., warned their employees of potential layoffs, citing "$24 million over the next six years in additional U.S. health care expenses". After laying off several white collar staffers, company insiders have hinted at more to come. The company will have to cover the additional $24 million cost somehow, which will likely equate to numerous cuts in their current workforce of 25,500 worldwide.

Stryker

One of the biggest medical device manufacturers in the world, Stryker will close their facility in Orchard Park, New York, eliminating 96 jobs in December. Worse, they plan on countering the medical device tax in Obamacare by slashing 5% of their global workforce - an estimated 1,170 positions.

Boston Scientific

In October of 2009, Boston Scientific CEO Ray Elliott, warned that proposed taxes in the health care reform bill could "lead to significant job losses" for his company. Nearly two years later, Elliott announced that the company would be cutting anywhere between 1,200 and 1,400 jobs, while simultaneously shifting investments and workers overseas - to China.

Medtronic

In March of 2010, medical device maker Medtronic warned that Obamacare taxes could result in a reduction of precisely 1,000 jobs. That plan became reality when the company cut 500 positions over the summer, with another 500 set for the end of 2013.

Others

A short list of other companies facing future layoffs at the hands of Obamacare:

Smith & Nephew - 770 layoffs
Abbott Labs - 700 layoffs
Covidien - 595 layoffs
Kinetic Concepts - 427 layoffs
St. Jude Medical - 300 layoffs
Hill Rom - 200 layoffs
Beyond the complete elimination of a significant number of American jobs is another looming problem created by the health care law - a shift from full-time to part-time workers.

Well, the alternative is that Republican solution of a private-for-profit healthcare system that still has costs rising at or more than the current rate, causing employers drop the benefit for their employees anyway because they can't afford it. Then most people stop using that healthcare because they can't afford it either, or they're sick and unable to work anymore.........or dead. Then the market for all this expensive medical care goes down the toilet do to a lack of customers and a sinking profit margin, forcing those healthcare and medical companies to lay off their people anyway. That about right?

if they're dead then you don't need to worry about health-care costs for them, so Costs go down. the deficit goes down. taxes go down, seems like a win win

I just wonder how much of this is being driven by spite and gaining the ability to say "I told you so." At face value I know this seems unrealistic, but with some people I know...........................

EDIT:The only reason I say this is because there doesn't even seem to be an attempt to make it work.

I’m pretty sure the Medical Industry was the only employment sector to add jobs at a substantial rate, over the last few decades.

Ooh, how convenient, someone already debunked at least some of this on a post that wound up on my Facebook news feed:

Boston Scientific facing fines

Medtronic fined for illegal kickbacks

So yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that most of these companies have some other stuff going on, and are using healthcare reform as a bull★■◆● excuse for laying off workers. I can guarantee those CEOs aren't cutting their own salaries, that's for sure. And let me guess, you got this story from the wonderfully-reputable Washington Times, didn't you?

I don't eat it anyways, but if it cost me an extra 15 cents per pizza so that Papa John's could give his employees health care, I'd gladly pay the extra 15 cents. A fundamental restructuring of the health care industry is in order...let's see it get done.

Oh, and maybe that Schnattner guy could sell one of his 50 million dollar houses to pay for his employees to have health care. ★■◆●ing greedy bastard.

Yeah, I saw that 15 cents quote, and I was like...really? Just 15 cents? And that's somehow supposed to be a hardship? You can find more than that walking down your average sidewalk.

So what you are saying is, the ACA will bring us aprox 1.5% consumer inflation…and I’m ok with that.

What I’m not ok with is, the fact that the ACA (ha ha ha ) was supposed to REDUCE costs, not just spread them around.

My biggest problem with the ACA is that it doesn't do enough. We need something that completely dismantles the health insurance industry; making money off of people's health is ridiculous. Not everything in this world should be evaluated in terms of the bottom line.

What a company might do is lay off workers then contract the more experienced. The draw back is the lack of oversight and control the contractee has over the contractor. So what we might be seeing is restructuring of companies rather than a true loss of jobs; op might be misleading.
