A friend just bought a Windows 8 computer and is going to take it back. They have set up some usernames, passwords etc. what's the easiest way to get it back to "store-bought" condition prior to entering any info?

Re-run the setup and reinstall Win 8.

Most store bought and dell/hp/compaq/etc computers these days have restore/recovery partitions that will reset the computer to factory defaults which also wipes all user data. Look in the documentation, usually you have to press a key during BIOS to get into recovery mode. Of course if you set passwords or anything like that, the first thing they are going to do after you take it back is to run the recovery themselves in order to wipe the machine clean, but no harm in doing it yourself just to be sure.
