I have a Samsung Galaxy tab 2 7.0 and am looking at getting a HTC EVO 4g LTE. Sprint is trying to get me to buy a mobile hot spot thingy so I can access the tablet to the net. Of course monthly fees would increase also. Now if I get the HTC Evo, that will connect to the net via 3g or 4g network. My question is...is there any way I can connect the EVO to the tablet so I can connect to the net thru the EVO's connection?

Check to see if your phone will have the ability to create a HOTSPOT. My iPhone has it and I connect my ereader to it like using wifi.

Thanks Merlin. Sprint seems to want you to get a add on plan to make it a hot spot, but thanks to you I did a little googleing and found you can still use it as a hotspot by downloading a app called wifi tether. A you tube vid even shows how to set it up:

Any phone with wifi can be made into a wifi tether, however the ability to do so may be restricted or outright disabled by your carrier.

Some carriers charge an extra monthly fee for the feature (usually $15-20), in which case just downloading an app that enables the ability on the phone without paying the fee would be a terms of service violation and could result in the carrier terminating your service. I've also heard of some carriers that detect unauthorized tethering forcing the user into one of the billing tiers that include tethering (usually significantly more expensive than the base data plans). So it is best to be aware of your carriers policy before you attempt it.

I don't expect any carrier wants you to tether. As it is all I'll be doing is surfing a bit with the tablet and checking stocks so without downloading I'm not sure it will be detectable.

T-Mobile hasn't been too much of a dick to me about it. I have a phone with in-built support (no jailbreaking or the likes required) and haven't been asked to pay extra.

As far as I'm aware, though, they're in the minority on this.
