Java is driving me crazy

Post by thewolfe »

Disable it this way, disable it that way......

I'm running FireFox on Win 7 and the instructions say find and click on the Java control panel and "Disable".

And then there is " go to Tools/Options/Content and uncheck "EnableJava".

Then there's stuff on "Tools?Add-ons.

And that's just FF. What about IE......

Is there one move that will disable it?

Is "Shockwave" completely different in my Add-ons? And should I be disabling it for security reasons?

I know I can't just "nuke" the progies cause some banks, ect need the to run.

I had a laptop that actually came with a full version of Java installed (stupid HP). I tried updating it because I kept getting a warning that my version was outdated and a security risk, which it was. Couldn't get it to update right, ever, so I got pissed off and uninstalled it in the control panel and said good riddance. That said, since JavaScripting is a different animal, things still work on both my browsers, although with Firefox, I have NoScript running, so I have to allow it if I trust the site.

Start ---> Control Panel ---> Programs (if in category view) ---> Java (32-bit) ---> Security tab ---> "Enable Java content in the browser" checkbox.

B: Uninstall Java (Online banking sites use Javascript, not Java, and should not require the Java plugin to work).
