DescentBB

I'm hoping you guys can help. I have asked PlanetDescent, PCLinuxOS, Descentbb.com, and now you guys.

I installed Descent 3 on my computer (PCLinuxOS), and the installation went fine. I did as they said, place in disc 2 to run the game. Intro works fine, sound and audio. however, at the end (when you see the ship burn and the words DESCENT 3 come up), the game just ends, and I see myself back on the desktop.
No warnings that I can see or hear during the game.

According to the konsole, when launching the game, I get:

Failed to load library [libGL.so].

Descent 3 Message(Error: Failed to load library [libGL.so].
)

System Error

As I said, I asked in PCLinuxOS, and no help yet on this libGL file. May have to direct it better.
Found an OLD topic a a few years ago, from Mandiva, me asking for help on this same issue.

What video card do you have?

What video driver are you using?

Sounds like maybe you don't have one installed...

according to the hardware section in linux:

Identification
Vendor: ‎Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI

Description: ‎RS780L [Radeon HD 3000]

Media class: ‎VGA compatible controller

try making sure that you have a decent driver for the card installed - I.E. xf86-video-ati.

...Bottom line: it looks like you don't have hardware acceleration installed for your video card, and unfortunately you have an ATI card.

Does glxgears work?

I don't even think I have glxgears. can't find it in the software to add/remove software/packages.

Penumbra works great. I don't get it. Had this issue, i think even with NVIDIA. on a laptop, on another distro.

Most people here use Ubuntu or Arch, so since your problem seems to be not having the right distro packages installed, I don't know if there's much we can do to help you if you're using PCLinux.

i appreciate you guys trying anyway. I had better luck using the windows version with "wine". I believe I did anyway.
