Horrific city bus crash

Yesterday in Ottawa (my city) there was a double decker bus that crashed into a Via Rail passenger train. 6 people have died including the bus driver. This is the same road that I use to get to work. The only difference is I pass those tracks at 5:30am and this happened at 8:48am. My wife passed the scene moments before it happend as she saw the first cops/fire trucks coming when she was a mile down the road.

It's even on CNN if you are interested in reading. I roller bladed home yesterday and I passed the scene. They closed the road both ways but pedestrian traffic was allowed.

It's a sad day in our city as it's the most horrific bus accident involving a city bus.

Well, it sure hasn't been the best news week so far. Shootings in D.C., floods here in Costa Rica and also in Denver, now this.

It's one thing to read it on the news, it's another when it's in one's city/town. Having been in OKC in '95, and in Denver for the last couple of tragedies here, I know how that feels.

Merlin, was anyone you know hurt?

I have an app to check my speed when I rollerblade and used it to check the bus speed yesterday and today. While going home (this is the opposite direction the bus that crashed was going) we hit 97KPH in a 90 zone and he slowed down to about 60 at the tracks.

This morning going in the same direction that the accident happened, he hit 60KPH before the tracks and slowed down to 45 at the tracks. Normally they are flying much faster through there but since the accident, they have slowed.

We also go on a parkway where the limit is 60KPH, I clocked him at 87KPH.
