So someone is finally coming out with a tool to show you who is watching you while you browse:

"Users who activate Lightbeam will be able to see a real-time visualisation of every site they visit and every third-party that is active on those sites, including commercial organisations which might potentially be sharing your data."

So do you think people will rise up and storm the data sharing castles with pitchforks and torches or will they just yawn and go back to sleep? Mozilla is the party supplying it.

Privacy on the internet is an illusion, it doesn't really exist anymore outside of sites that are off the advertising grid (like the DBB).

If a site has advertisements, it is also pretty much a guarantee that they are tracking you and selling the data they collect.

That would be cool. I'd like to see who's sniffing out my activities. But I'm guessing since the average user doesn't even know how to clear their browsing history and cache, or set a password other than 1234 or "admin", they certainly wouldn't be able to figure out how to use it properly.

I've got Ghostery on Firefox. It keeps a list of all the trackers I run into, which I block if I haven't already. There are hundreds in the list, and new ones show up everyday. It's scary.

Well first you've got to find the plugin/addon. I found it to be a little difficult to find. It's called "Collusion", until you look in the menu after installing it, and upon launching it.

I noted that Wikipedia doesn't have any ad BS associated with it.

Ghostery is funded by an ad agency. Use donttrack.us
