it seems the US is steering the agenda here....
....and, do you think this is good or bad?

personally, I think it is high time(no pun intended.....oh, hell, sure)that we started treating pot like alcohol and tobacco. Bottom line is this, once this process gets going, it is going to be hard to rein in.

I'm divided. I got a pretty bad pinch in my back, so I smoked it for quite awhile, but in this day and age I want to be in my right mind 100% of the time. I have not been taking any pain medication at all and just sucking up. I think it messes your tuning up, gets your brainwaves off frequency, but I can understand the medical aspect of it. I've had this in my back since I was 18, not to mention I crushed my hip pretty good at the same time and still worked for 23 more years. I will probably never smoke weed again though.

I gave up on that notion long ago.flip wrote:in this day and age I want to be in my right mind 100% of the time.
Seriously, though, of all inebriants, pot would be my choice. Like anything else, I am strongly wedded to the notion of moderation, and self-control. That said, I'm also aware that a goodly number of people seem to lack the capacity for that. Hence, I'm for strict regulation, and can even support some employer screening, especially in jobs requiring top level mental focus(although the urine testing now used is wretched for that....merely shows contact at some point in the last 7-30 days, depending on a host of factors that vary widely by individual physiology). I definitely feel it should be tested(blood test) in any motor vehicle situation, and be subject to the same strict DUI laws as alcohol.

Well, I can't say I won't miss certain aspects of it, mainly the overdrive, but I don't want to have to worry about who's whispering in my ear either and you and I both know the heightened awareness that comes along with it. No thanks.

as with most everything, flip, it's each to their own. And, since we're discussing what is(for us biochemists) a mild hallucinogen, the effects will vary WIDELY from person to person. Much more so, by the way, than alcohol, which is a respiratory depressant.

That's true, my mind stays in dang overdrive anyways. Car must have squashed it in just the right way, considering how you look at it!

I tell my employees "We don't do company drug testing, I believe everyone is responsible for testing their own drugs. But I'll fire your ass in a heartbeat if I think you are high at work."

I'm all for that policy, Will. You'd probably be on shaky ground with an employment commission unless you blood-tested them before firing, but that's your call.

Hehe, I used to smoke at least half a quarter a day with my crew. Makes em work faster and with more enthusiasm, just have to keep a closer eye on them

From what I understand, there's been work done in developing strains of marijuana that are extremely low in THC, as well as extracts that completely remove it while leaving the drug's other properties. This is the sort of thing that's invaluable for medicinal applications, and full legalization would presumably really spur it on. Even if we're talking about the normal variety, if someone wants to sit in their living room and watch music player visualizations of Pink Floyd while munching Doritos, I don't see how that harms anyone else at all.
