For those who seriously want to learn Russia, I can give references to modern Russian movies. Which is actually not much different from the documentary.
It can replace a thousand words for you.

PM me, please. I can't promise I'll find the time(fishing/beach season is coming soon, I hope), and I know I'll need movies with English subtitles, but it sounds interesting. Thank you.

Here is a very short list.
I doubt that these films will ever broadcast by any of the thousands of American television. Nevertheless, I am sure that these films were translated into English. If you can find them, I believe that everyone who is interested Russian history, should see them at least once in their lifetime.

Штрафбат
Брестская крепость
Турецкий гамбит
Мы из будущего
Апостол
Адмиралъ
Статский советник
Утомленные солнцем-2:Цитадель
В круге первом
Ликвидация
Сибирский цирюльник

I'd like to learn a Russian accent, if you have a source for that. ;) As for learning Russian history from films, here in my country I have learned to take the airbrushed history which makes its way to film with a grain of salt. Actually if it comes from within the last few decades I would almost completely disregard it.

Does Hunt for the Red October count as a Russian movie?
