Fort Hood Shooting goes without comment?

....really? Have we become so numb that yet another person, with a longish mental health history, active prescriptions of psychoactives, and a documented record of behavioral issues walking into a gun shop and arming himself is just ho-hum boring? The fact that he used the same gun dealer
as the LAST local mass-shooter doesn't alarm anyone? Oh, yeah, I remember now.....he could have just used a hammer to go into two buildings and drive around killing people, right?

I read about gun shootings daily. It's a part of life now. Why I don't bother looking when I hear people screaming. Not saying it's the right thing but when it's a daily occurrence, it gets annoying fast.

seriously, Merlin? You, in your city, routinely 'hear people screaming'? And, you ignore them? Sad.

Nice to see you didn't say anything about the drugs he was on for depression. What is so special about this case? In Chicago this is done everyday.
As to buying at the same gun store, maybe it is the only one near Fort Hood so why should where he purchased a gun make you see a boogeyman under your bed?

So what would you do slick if you saw someone getting shot. Run up and hug the shooter and tell him he is being a bad boy?

I didn't mean people screaming because they are being mugged etc. I mean that when I hear it I never know if it's just screaming because someone get spooked, playing, excited or getting shot etc that I don't bother with it. I can't imagine living anywhere where gun violence is so rampant like it is in certain cities in the US.

either you can't read, or once again, you are trying to lie to bolster a weak argument. Go and read my initial post again....you know, the part about 'active prescriptions'

What is so special about this case? In Chicago this is done everyday.[I/quote]
I suppose you're right. Psychotic people, in treatment ARE buying guns and killing people everyday. What is 'special' is that we allow a gun lobby to keep us from developing a reasonable method of background checks, and allow that lobby to force reduced funding of the agengies involved in maintaining background check records, and think that's just fine.
As to buying at the same gun store, maybe it is the only one near Fort Hood so why should where he purchased a gun make you see a boogeyman under your bed?
the role of the aptly named 'Guns Galore' is more ironic than anything......however, I seriously doubt it is the only gun store near the base. Really, do you think such a thing? Ever lived near a major military base?

likely duck and cover. Certainly, 'ignoring' it wouldn't happen. Would call the cops when out of the crossfire. Nothing much else one can do.....and, please, don't suggest that I could be carrying a be a hero. Unless the individual is VERY well trained, you just add to the crossfire.

Crossfire? There is usually only one person shooting some innocent person. Lol at duck and cover. You are doing just what Merlin said...basically ignore it. And no I wouldn't expect, with your liberal fearful attitude, to do anything remotely heroic.

heroism is for those trained to deal with it. Your concept is to be an idiot. Hardly heroic. Plus, worth noting. How do you know, in the moment, whether there is but one shooter? How do you know they are shooting at someone 'innocent'? Lotsa questions, no time to parse them. As I said, once out of harms way, I would contact the authorities. I'm just a citizen, no need to try and be a hero. Too many complete ***holes are such because they imagine themselves to be 'heroes'.

Most heroes end up dying because of their actions to save others.

I suggest trying to google people saving other people because they were armed. And no, the people doing heroic act don't visualize before hand they are going to be heroic nor do they view themselves as hero's afterward. And nice to see how you demean people who do heroic acts as assholes. Says a lot about yourself.

Before this turns into another gun thread, one thing I don't see discussed here is what to do about our volunteer army. Here are some questions to ask: Is it time to reevaluate how we put our military together? Should there be new types of evaluations for prospective enlistees? Can we afford to turn people away who want to volunteer service? What possible effects might this have on someone who's dream it is to serve and then be denied? Can the United States afford to remodel military service into one that is seen as a highly sought after and lucrative career, thus (theoretically) increasing the quality of the servicemen and servicewomen? How does PTSD fit into the mix and how can we provide the ultimate care for veterans?

There are many more questions to ask, all more important than gun control in this case.
