Major Leagues - Improved? Baseball haters need not apply

Maybe its because my team (the Cardinals) is doing so much better this year than last, but this season seems to be a much more interesting year for baseball. The NL Central, one of the worst divisions in the league last year, is now the most interesting, with a 4 team race for 1st. The AL East is no longer dominated by the Yanks...Boston and even the O's are doing better this year. The AL West is always competitive, and the NL West is also fun to watch with the Dodgers and Giants. Last year's joke teams like the Mets, Tigers, Brewers, Reds...they're all doing much better than last year...the Reds are currently in 1st in the Central.

So do you think this year is more interesting so far or is it just me? If so, why do you think that is?

Haven't paid much attention to baseball lately. Rooting for the hometeam Devil Rays is very depressing. Once in awhile, I'll see them with a winning streak of four or five, and that means they are doing good. If it wasn't for their recent double-digit losing streak, they would probably be competitive. Being 19-32 sucks. Being in the division with money spenders like the Yankees and Red Sox sucks even more...but if it weren't for those teams, the attendnace would probably be in the double digits for any given game. :(

I'm wondering why the Mets all of a sudden started playing like a decent team.

Some teams are playing better, but some teams are definitely doing worse. I point you to the Seattle Mariners, who had a record of 19-31 before the game yesterday (I do not know who won it).

The east isnt dominated by the Yanks?? The whole league is dominated by the Yanks. The only reason they are 2.5 games ahead of Boston is that it took them a month to even start playing well. Boston kicked it right out of the gate and now they are sliding.

Well of course on paper the Yankees look like the best team; the Yankees look like the best team on paper EVERY year, but when was the last time they actually won the World Series?

Cardinals - Bosox in World Series, Cardinals win in 7.

and as a whole...what team is better not on paper?

The Yanks have the best record in baseball. Their pitching has turned completely around...the bats are waking up...they aren't good on paper, they are good on the field too :)

Heh, that won't last. The yanks don't have the depth to play consistently hot the rest of the year. They also don't have a team that can win the World Series IMO. Essembling some of the best players in baseball does not win you a championship like it does in other sports because the baseball season is so long.

The yanks don't have the cohesiveness to be champions like they did 5 years ago. Make no mistake, they'll be in the playoffs, but some other team that gets hot at the end of the year in the playoffs will beat them.

The Dbacks faced the last great Yanks team and beat them. So far, the empire has done a lot of boasting, but it hasn't quite struck back :P

It wont last? They were in the world series last year and got beat. They are always in the playoffs, they are an even better team this year than last. I don't know how you think it won't last, their pitching is coming around and so is finally the hitting.

Im not arguing the fact that the Yanks are much improved, I'm just saying that there are other teams out there who could give them a run. The Bosox are sliding but they'll be back. Your Cubs aren't doing so hot right now Z ;)

Cardinals :D
