Then why is it that most of the Bible thumpers in the U.S. tend to be conservative or Republican and anti-science? At least, that's the way it seems. As a liberal myself, I've only read through the Bible once, and that was enough for me.

What makes you think your perception of those people is based on reality and not a narrative designed to push your perception through a template...be it pro or con, depending on who is authoring the narrative?

I'd be very surprised if there is an accurate AND objective polling done of all the practicing Christians in America that delves into those issues.

Just from my observation of the political sphere in the South, most of the Bible readers down there tend to lean conservative, if their votes concerning social and moral issues are an indication of their religious views and practices. That may not be true in other states though, but many of my friends who are solid Bible readers tend to vote along Republican lines and always against abortion and gay rights.

There is no solicitation to close. You get a 4 paragraph preview of the article and can no see any more until you login or subscribe. Did you even read the article? How about the part that says "You have reached the end of this Article Preview. To continue reading, subscribe now. Subscribers have full digital access."?
All that does is quote the article on Christianity Today and offers no additional information, just editorial. Where is the study?

This is interesting.

Apparently the "Christian Right", even though most people tend to think that a lot of their philosophy overlaps with that of the mainstream Republicans and the Tea Party, they apparently have a large independent portion that falls well outside the mainstream Republican sphere. Maybe they're so far right, they've come full circle and now they're in the leftie sphere. Who knew?

I did notice that almost ALL of the Tea Party is as staunchly Republican as ever. No independents there. :P

From the very beginning establishment of the state called the United States of America, every day Americans betrayed God and violated his commandments. Only God for the Americans - is money.
Just for the sake of money the United States is killing thousands of other people in other countries, does not care about that at a time when American teenagers go to school on school buses, at this time, adolescents in other countries are run through the ruins of their cities to school under fire American missiles.

You're right that America worships money. I can't change that. But I can guarantee you sigma that even Russia would bomb ISIS into oblivion if they beheaded a bunch of Russian civilians, on video, for all the world to see and then called for the death of every infidel Russian citizen in a Fatwa. Even Putin wouldn't ignore that provocation.

Maybe they aren't reading their Bible's enough... (I'm actually serious about this)

My opinion on comparisons like this: the Bible's a (generally) a-political book - it's people that take the teachings of the Bible and attach it to political platforms. Also, both of our political parties have some aspects that jive with the Bible teachings (most obviously, pro-life & republicans, social caring & democrats) - but the parties also have other platforms that don't match so well. I think the central problem is that the Bible's full of teachings and examples of staying out of the establishment & administration of governments - most notably in the example of Christ who gave himself up to the (hated) Roman government to be killed when all of the Israelites expected the Messiah to establish a new Jewish kingdom.

Bottom line: the Bible focuses mostly on people's motivations and attitudes - even when you see specific laws about actions, it's clear that there's a larger point that addresses people's hearts. Governments are about actions and mechanics - so in a sense the two deal with different realms of interest.

A true patriot - a citizen of a country that is able to hear criticism from the outside and, at least, to give their assessment. Or you lose the ability to think clearly, when the criticism comes from the Russian?

Toro torero! Pull devil! Come on! Toro!!! :twisted2:

this likely explains A LOT:

I note they changed the laws in January or thereabouts to make it easier to remove 'subversive' content from the view of folks like Sigma. Nice.

You much watch a different BBC than I did…actually I stopped watching BBC America because that one ★■◆● on that show was always putting this country down (of course she was only reading the text) perhaps they have changed their tone since Obama was elected.

Note...not an entirely serious post...
