God Damned Guidebot

Does anyone else hate this useless piece of programming as much as I do? I often release it because there is a hidden cache in the area it is being held in but I use shift+7 to tell it to stay away. It does not stay away though. Often, it will just follow me, shooting its damned flares at me, ruining my shield rating.
Is there a mod out there that fixes this pest?

Tell it to stay away some more, and it eventually will. I prefer doing w/o the cumbersome weapon caches in its cage though.

It's very hard to destroy.

Yeah, pretty much impossible, unless you want to completely deplete your stock of weapons. Too bad for you, if you have any need at all for the guidebot, because there is no way to get rid of it, once your need is over. If they had made it so you could actually tell it to go away and it did, that would be cool.
What I find to be true, is that it will go someplace that you need to go and sit there shooting an unending stream of flares, so that it is impossible to get a key without getting flared to death. I press shift+7 and it says staying away, while staying right there and being a hazard. I hate it.

I like the GB! I'd direct you to a PD post, but it's
down!:(
I've never done it in D2, but in D3, it's not
really designed to get destroyed. It'll cause an access violation and lockup if you don't do it right (such as bringin up the GB menu after it's blown up)...
also, staying away
does make it stay away!

D2 handles the GB's loss better than D3 does because mines in D2 are not required to have a GuideBot (and he's not in your ship either). But in D2, the GuideBot only takes splash damage. Regular weapons go right through him.
I like to have fun sometimes though. Nothing like typing HELPVISHNU a few dozen times, then typing GOWINGNUT. Get out of the way of course, or you may be blown to bits as well.

PLEASE DON'T KILL WINGNUT!!!!!!!
I had no problems with him, when I say him to fly away, he does.

Helpvishnu-created guidebots are not immune to conventional weapons fire. Only the default one is.
I very rarely even use those things in my levels, considering most people don't even like them. It's there as an option when it's really useful, but otherwise...

wingnut = best company i ever had in descent single player. sometimes i would just F8 to chat with him and we would really get into some great conversations while i blasted robots and he flared the shizzle out of me.
i only ever killed him once, and that was when he got stuck in this little cubby hole... so i just get blasting him til he died. i felt bad about it afterward, luckily he was there on the next level when i got there.
d3 guidebot = annoying when he got lost and i had to find his a$$ (anyone else ever run into that? "Wingnut (yes i named him wingnut) 'Coming back to get you!'" ... me: dammit stay put you moron!)
sorry... what were you guys talking about?

my point is that they don't care much about necroposting in the descent single player threads
so in before the lock is a silly thing to say.

Actually, in v1.0 of D2 you actually can kill the guidebot. Use the gowingnut cheat and blast away.

Gowingnut makes the Guidebot go mad: It gets equipped with all available missiles and attacks all robots in the mine.
You can destroy it, but it has a tremendous amount of hitpoints.

d2 options in d1

why not make some more d2 options in d1 ?
After all this is the main advantage to have 1 program for the 2, being able to play with d2 options in d1.
Like missile view which could be enabled or disabled from the gui (so if you don't like it, just disable it), or the guide bot which can be very handy in some d1 levels (I tested it by changing its cheat to be a d1 cheat and it works well, but it could be improved by having this option without cheating).
Actually I have just patched my version for that : allowed to create a guide bot when pressing shift-F4 and there is no guide bot in mine for every version, not only the debug version, and remove the test for d1level when redering missile view.
Very small patch, and very handy !

If you use the \"rabid robots\" cheat in D2 you can hit
the GB directly with weapons too.

GB can be destroyed from Earthshaker or Mega Missiles. Lanuch about 7 - 10 times Hit the wall, when GB is getting close the wall. GB will drop marker while it destroyed. The marker said \"Guide-Bot: DIP\". I did destroyed it before.
