oh, my bad.....this is Moscow, Idaho. And, while the world goes crazy over loose gunmen killing people in Paris, it's just
another night in America. Hell, terrorists wouldn't even bump the statistics up that much.
It's getting dangerous in Russia, too.

This psychosis can only be compared with the spring exacerbation in schizophrenics.
Incidentally, in Russia almost every week there are reports of preventing terrorist acts and arrest Ukrainian terrorists throughout Russia...

Nerd, it says only that in Ukraine there are centers for training terrorists. I even know who they are trained. The fourth floor of the Ukrainian Security Service, where is the headquarters of US military advisers. And there is severely limited access even for the authorities of the Ukrainians.

and you know this how? Oh yes, because your masters spoon feed you this to distract the slow-witted masses from economic collapse.sigma wrote:Nerd, it says only that in Ukraine there are centers for training terrorists. to get back on track, which had NOTHING to do with Russia, really:

which, to return to my point, raises the question: How come we absolutely freak when some warped Muslim or group of them holds hostages, shoots people or the like, yet, headlines like the above, involving regular non-Muslim Americans, overarmed and under-intellectually functional, do the same, nearly daily?

I see your point, but there is an important difference. Attacks by religious extremists generally have specific targets, and those targets are chosen based on the amount on damage they can do.* When you target key people in key industries you can manipulate policy. I agree the amount of random gun violence here is tragic. But a better comparison than say, someone robing an Arby's, is a group of vegans who threaten to destroy all those who eat animals then go into Arby's corporate headquarters and shoot the place up. At the very least it will cause all their competitors to increase security while emphasizing non-meat products on their menus in order to reduce the chance of being a target. That's considered a win for the vegans even if their agenda is short-sighted.callmeslick wrote:How come we absolutely freak when some warped Muslim or group of them holds hostages, shoots people or the like, yet, headlines like the above, involving regular non-Muslim Americans, overarmed and under-intellectually functional, do the same, nearly daily?
* Even suicide bombing tends to kill random people of one faith while being carried out by those of another, and done where the most damage can happen physically and psychologically.

It's all a question of xenophobia. Most Americans just don't think that they'll be the victim of random violence from other Americans. They don't believe that even the most nutcase of American shooters are really a big threat in their everyday lives, because they're from around here and mostly "normal" people. But add in a foreign religion and a totally different culture, the freak out meter goes way off the scale. It becomes an "us" verses "them" problem, and we all know it's easier to fear a "them" than the "us", the average American who's your neighbor.callmeslick wrote:...which, to return to my point, raises the question: How come we absolutely freak when some warped Muslim or group of them holds hostages, shoots people or the like, yet, headlines like the above, involving regular non-Muslim Americans, overarmed and under-intellectually functional, do the same, nearly daily?
As good ol' Donald Rumsfield once said:
"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."
And that pretty much sums up American's crazy fear of terrorist attacks.
