You owe it to yourself to give ORION: Prelude a try! I would specifically recommend Conquest mode in the World-Tundra map (on Easy to start), and get together some friends for Co-Op! Think Tribes with waves of dinosaurs attacking!
I'm game if anyone wants to put together a DBB co-op game sometime!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever tried this? Previous releases of the same game have been known as Orion: Dino Beatdown, and Orion: Dino Horde, with Orion: Prelude being the most complete release.
Played some Co-Op the other day with my brothers and found a difficulty setting "prehistoric", which allowed me to customize the number of "small dinosaurs", which I set to 500%. Luckily I set our starting credits to 20,000, and we were able to start with some decent weapons and level up a little, otherwise the waves of 100+ Velociraptors would have been too much even for 3 of us! It was a blast! At one point there was a machine gun turret and 2 of us on the ground, and one in sniping position mowing down better than 150 small dinosours (Velociraptor, Galamimus, Pterodactyl, some larger acid spitter)!
IMO even though it has a few bugs (nothing prohibitive so far), for the fun to be had in Co-Op it would be well worth dropping $30 on it, never mind the $1 they're asking. I tried to purchase 4 copies for $2.99 to throw out to whoever might be interested here, and to support development, but Steam wouldn't let me since I already own the game. :\

This is not hunting, and massacre.
If you like this game, I think you will like it

This is not hunting or massacre, Sigma. If those seals were swarming you like these dinosaurs you'd be glad of a machine gun and a little backup, and no one would fault you for putting down the deceptively cute and innocent-looking little monsters with "extreme prejudice".

I saw a letter someone wrote to a newspaper once about why anybody wants to save polar bears, and how horrible must it be for the seals that they eat, to see each other get eaten... but seals are carnivores too. So why does this guy draw the line there? ... At least it was clear where he decided to draw it, although I got the impression from his letter he might have been confusing a seal's diet with a manatee's.
That was when I stopped reading letters to the editor. They're worse than youtube comments. I don't know what my point is. This was two or three years ago.
As far as hunting dinosaurs... well, I started playing Primal Carnage a month ago. Not a bad game, but the soundtrack is pretty bland and the game gets super-unstable if I try to run Foobar at the same time.

I think it looks kind of fun and it's also pretty cheap on Steam IIRC.
It's an online-only game or does it have single-player mode?
(Ya know, I tend to enjoy more single-player unless it's way too dull)

Now I know that all dinosaurs were destroyed Sergeants Thorne and Top Guns, but not climate cataclysm or fall of a large meteorite.

I happen to wonder if many dinosaurs were not, in fact, killed off by people as the human populations grew and prevailed.
All right, Sigma, quit being such a stick-in-the-mud and come help me shoot some dinosaurs. We will shoot dinosaurs and drink Vodka, and our base will not fall! When we're done I will go feed by friends the squirrels in the back yard and continue to enjoy the rest of nature as it goes about its business because that's real life and this is a game. But you'd better be sure that if the Velociraptor population ever needed checking in my neighborhood I would be locked, loaded, and on it!

I do not respect and I will never respect the hunters who shoot animals with automatic weapons, or they shoot from helicopters at low altitude. Even dinosaurs. I have repeatedly seen boars and bears that attacked me. Of course, beaters made these animals to attack hunters. But he has big teeth and more power than me. I have only a hunting rifle, four cartridges and a knife. The animal might kill me if I do not nimble enough. It's honest. This is a real hunt, not killing.

This winter, I did not go on the hunt. But if you have the opportunity to come, I invite you to hunt for wolves in Russia.

Look here... I appreciate your thoughts on hunting and so forth. When you seem to feel that this game is somehow representative of my conduct out in the wild, you've departed from a rational line of thought. I presume we're dealing with some kind of cultural disconnect here, because IMO you can't be that stupid. I'm talking dinosaur defense game, you're talking laws of nature and respect for the wild. That offends me at this point. You need to recognize that there is a difference. I would never hunt animals with a full auto, or hunt from a chopper, and I would never kill more than I needed to. I also am very much against the wholesale slaughter of any animal for commerce rather than need (seals). I would hunt and kill a seal, but I would not do it unless I were going to use the meat for food as well as the skin for clothing.
EDIT: You know I'd love to see a Russian wolf, but really wouldn't want to go out and kill one unless it was threatening myself or other people.

I do not mean to offend you somehow. But I can not change my opinion. In general, hunting for dinosaurs is a good idea, but not so as it is implemented in this game.

I like you, Sigma, but I still think you're being obtuse. This game is so far removed from reality... I see a separation there. The day wolves roam in waves, require multiple shots to kill, and attack villages in large numbers I expect you will upgrade to automatic weapons (or die). But of course there's just nothing realistic about that.
Now maybe you think such a jaunt away from reality is not good (but then why do you still insist it is "hunting"?). I feel this way about zombie-killing games. I have a real problem with mowing down unarmed people no matter what the fantastic justification. I think it's unhealthy to even go there. Is this something like where you're coming from?

The difference is that my credo - not to kill anyone as long as they are innocent. That is, I do not want to kill the dinosaurs, just because they dinosaurs. In my opinion, aggressors in this game are not dinosaurs, and people. But of course, if the initiative of the extermination people comes from the dinosaurs, then you can use any weapon for protection. Something like that.

Well, Sigma, the premise in this game is that you have a base to protect, and all the dinosaurs in the world are trying to eat it and you. They are aggressors, not innocent.

Apparently, this game is designed for people who have an aversion to the dinosaurs.
For example, I do not like rats. Big, fat, impudent, smart, cunning rats. These scum never bit me, but when they appear in my house, they begin to eat my house and they love to lie on me when I sleep. So I kill them in all possible ways. My most favorite entertainment is to catch the rat and to chop it with a shovel in the yard

Only possible in young-earth theories, since there is otherwise a big gap between the two in the geological record. On the other hand, humans are quite probably responsible for the demise of "ice age" creatures such as the mammoth and saber-toothed cat regardless of who you ask... although I doubt they were exterminated through "tower defense" scenarios
Anyway, yeah, wolf hunting is pretty heavily restricted (or banned most of the time?) in the US, because there are only something like 20,000 across the whole of the lower 48 states - with most of Russia being much more sparsely inhabited by humans the situation there might be different though.

See what the situation is. Sometimes even in the Moscow region wolf population is increasing dramatically. As a rule, large packs of wolves come to the Moscow region from neighboring areas. Then the local government specifically hire professional hunters to reduce their numbers. Not to mention the fact that amateur hunters can shoot the wolves in any quantity. While in other regions, wolves are always a lot. They kill people every year, not to mention the domestic and wild cattle.

Well, it would be good to hunt them in that case.
Sirius wrote:Only possible in young-earth theories, since there is otherwise a big gap between the two in the geological record.
Yes. This gap exists in the billions of years interpretation of geological stratification. I hold that we are living on a young earth. It's inescapable from the Biblical record taken together with the account of the creation in Genesis.

Our company amateur hunters has its own restaurant in a very picturesque place in Moscow. In this restaurant you can see the stuffed animals and birds, which do not have many museums. And of course, in this restaurant you can eat a dish of a bear or a moose or deer or wolf or a hare or... etc. And moreover, it is always fresh meat. You can see for yourself, or even try to carve the carcass of a wild animal, which the hunters brought from the forest today

I even find in our stock a good carbine and equipment for you personally if you want to come with us on a hunt
If you just want to visit our restaurant to taste the meat of wild animals, then you should know that we do not go hunting every day. Every day, the restaurant's menu has only traditional Russian cuisine. Meat dishes are large wild animals appear in the menu only after the hunt. Then there will be a lot of hunters and their friends, and will be a feast

If you want and to be able to visit Russia and I can give you some advice. First of all, you should visit at least once in their lifetime in the Altai, Baikal, Kamchatka and Putorana Plateau. This fabulously beautiful places that have magical effects on the human soul.
