Interesting facts

You know that in Russia the most cruel things traditionally have a very romantic name?
For example, anti-tank missiles are named "Baby", "Chrysanthemum", etc.
Self-propelled guns and automatic mortars have names "Peony", "Tulip", "Carnation", "Acacia", "Cornflower", "Hyacinth" (the soldiers themselves rightly called it "genocide"),
radio DF complex have name "Smile"
reactive chemical and cluster rockets are named "Weasel", "Decoration"
shipboard radar are named "Positive"
handcuffs "Tenderness" and the light-sound-stun grenades repeated action called "Ecstasy"

And this is only a small part names...

By the way, the most horrible jails in Russia called "White Swan" (inhumanly cruel treatment for prisoners), "Black Dolphin" (a prison for life prisoners and sentenced to death), "Sailor's Silence"(for the doomed political prisoners)

I'm glad someone else thinks weasels can be nice.
I might not want to call them romantic tho. Everyone already thinks I'm a furry.

I think that Black Dolphin prison needs to be renamed the Pink Dolphin. What a bilious color to paint a building. Kind of gay too. :P

And judging from the Russian penchant of naming weapons and prisons after flowers and animals, sadists too.

The American flag has two options? :o I see badge on uniform of a soldier, where the American flag is shown incorrectly. If this is not an error, then the American flag can be arbitrarily?

No stupid, the military code says you can only wear one flag on a uniform, so they split it in two and place half on each sleeve.

See…you really know NOTHING about America.

You can see the same thing on the Space Shuttle.

My dear Spidey... You do not correctly answer this question :) Refine your knowledge of America and back again.

But... Why the hostility in the first place Spidey? This is NOT an E&C topic. :?
You could simply answer him without calling him 'stupid' and without attacking him.

Yeah, I know sigma can seriously get on our nerves sometimes, but this time his question was well-meant and he was not attacking anybody on this thread.

Why EVERY single damn topic here on the DBB tends to acquire such an E&C tone (full with hostility) every single time and over, and over, and over?
Are users here way TOO obssesed with politics and arguments or what?

These forums are turning into a kind of Youtube comment hell.

Well I will apologize to you Pumo, but not to him.

All that guy does is use every opportunity to trash this country, and quite frankly...I have had just about enough.

My only thought was....here we go again...yea it starts out innocent enough, but then always turns into some kind of insult.

He gets everything he deserves, as far as I'm concerned, and he is damn lucky he doesn't get a lot more.

Yeah, no worries, no need to really apologize (and much less to me, I'm not precisely the upper authority on the forums :P).

It was just a quick vent from my side as I'm a bit sick of encountering arguments and hostility everywhere I move/look (I tend to be kind of pacifist).

Yeah, I know that has happened more than once, can't deny that.

Spidey, can you tell me your real name? Not necessarily in the forum, can a personal message.

In fact, I'm not interested in your real name. Based on your answer, you were closed in the shell of your inner world. Also, we can conclude that you are a person who is forced to be radically aggressive and callous just because you have too sensitive soul. You are a wonderful person apparently, but you hide it carefully

I have no purpose specifically enrage you. I sometimes just talking about the facts that you may not like. If you think I'm a propagandist, I will not say anything more about politics. You can always know the opinions of others.

I know you are not specifically enraging me, it's just that you have the tendency to derail topics way too much, and even if I agree with your opinion on certain threads, it's usually out of place and that's the stuff that sometimes put on my nerves a bit, and yeah you tend to look like a propagandist (wether you're right about your facts or not).

But I encourage you and spidey and even me (as well as any other user who wishes to enter into this thread) to continue with the original discussion about Interesting Facts, I would really like to see more about that topic, so let's forget all the sourness around here and keep it going!. :)

(P.S. BTW, I posted at your 'National musical instruments' thread also, if you want to share more about interesting musical instruments around the world on there)

Russian space tourists talk about their impressions of the visit to the ISS (they are ordinary people, not astronauts and they're not millionaires, they win a ticket into space in TV shows). So, they say that the biggest impression on the space - it's incredibly black space, this black can not be found on Earth. They also say that none of even the most professional camcorder can not convey the beauty of the Earth, which can be perceived by the human eye.
