also worth noting, secret letters don't seem to work very well anymore(at least the 'secret' part), and for all we know, the Ayatollah was merely passing along his mother's muffin recipes.

Netanyahu opposes any agreement because then the U.S. won't destroy those pesky nuclear reactors the Israelis fear will be used to make weapons. Now, Israel will have to do the job themselves.

First: If pushed, Israel will deal with anything 'pesky' all by their lonesome. Second: Anything 'Bibi" does or says at the moment is all self serving and totally for the home audience because of the elections coming up. Do you see where both first and second could land Israel in a spot of bother? lol. The sooner he's gone the better.

thanks for that, FC! Folks of a certain political type over here are beating their chests over Obama's refusal to meet with 'Bibi' when he's coming to give his self-serving speech to the ideologues in Congress. The stated reason is that Obama doesn't wish to involve himself in campaign publicity for YOUR elections, and I think that is sound. Any feel, from one who is a citizen there, as to how the elections are shaping up?

It looks like it will be a very close split between Bibi's bloc and a partnership of centre left bloc of Livni and Herzog. Israeli politics is comprised of many small parties, each with their own agenda...which is one big headache to be honest.
As to the Congress speech, i think most of the country is embarrassed by the whole affair, it's certainly provided the satirical media over here with loads of ammunition.

Hah, the election will be “steered” by his refusal even more than going.
If a foreign dignitary is invited to this congress, and the president doesn’t have anything really important to do on that day, it would only be polite to go, and that would be a hell of a lot more neutral than refusing. (which is a hell of a lot more of a political statement)
But there is a party in this country, that can always have it both ways.

actually, protocol dictates the President be informed BEFOREHAND, in all cases of foreign leaders. FC, the whole thing is an embarassment over here, too, but we're used to the GOP Congress embarrassing themselves.

But then it is embarasing how Obama has handled the whole middle east. Egypt, which used to be a good friend is now turning to the Russians for arms and nuclear power plants. Seems Obama wants to alienate our friends over there and cozy up to our enemy's.

Oh, I'm quite sure of that. Your country is much closer to Iran and in far more danger than the U.S. will ever be and Israel is quite capable militarily of defending itself if necessary. But listening to OUR blowhard warmongering politicians, they make it sound like WE need to come to your rescue like the Lone Ranger or else Israel will perish.

What friends? Just about everyone over there who is Muslim wants us GONE. In Jordan, many young Muslims are flocking to ISIS, even after that pilot was burned alive and the King declared war on them.

um, the Russians have been selling that sort of stuff to Egypt for, like, 50 years. So, more lies to make a weak case about Obama, who is now up to the 18th best President in US History, according to a recent political scientist's poll.

sort of funny seeing some Americans bluster about how important it is to heed our friends in the region, and Flabby points out that our best friends in the region find Bibi;s speech to Congress to be an embarrassment. Apparently, our GOP Congressmen didn't get the memo, huh?

ya, well protocol and law dictated the president notify congress before releasing prisoners from gitmo. Doesn't like it when it's used the other way does he.

Do you think he speaks for all Israelis? (Flabby)

likely as well as Netanyahu at this point. Seriously, the issue is that the US shouldn't be playing electoral politics in Israels domestic elections, that may well backfire on 'Bibi'(what I've read of the Israeli press sort of is in line with Flabby's remarks), and now you will end up with Israeli leadership that won't wish to work with the US Congress. Is that a good end point for you?

Back to Boehner, he now admits that he conspired with the Israeli ambassador to keep Obama out of the loop, which gets us to this bit of Federal Law:
18 U.S. Code § 953 - Private correspondence with foreign governments:
"Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."
^^^ IMHO this is the "smoking gun" evidence that a sitting U.S. congressman and - moreover - THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE, second in line of presidential succession - has violated existing statutes which bar such representatives from negotiating with foreign governments....i.e., sedition against the government of the United States.

Slicks boner for Boehner is showing. Like Cuda said, show the sedition as Boehner can invite whomever he wants to talk to congress without telling or seeking approval from Obama.

Sedition is a pretty hard case to make, I doubt the White House would stake that much political capital on such a thing.
I sure can’t connect the dots…maybe they can…but who knows.

actually, I prefer Boehner to some other GOP Congresspeople. I cited the exact text of the Sedition Law that Boehner violated.
