hardly anything to do with housing, Woody........dunno where you'd come to that conclusion. I just thought it to be interesting, as some on that old thread doubted that much research had been done, and others claimed no such thing as inherent privilege.

So human nature is bad? I wonder if the poll included black owned business's and how they respond to names.

why, Thorne? In fact it reinforces it(the subliminal nature of it), and completely skewers Woody's lame guesswork.

Why should a black man distrust black men? Even subliminally? To me it seems to push the argument from prejudice into the realm of experience. Unless somebody is going to show that there is a degree of social programming at work to present white people as trustworthy and black people as not...

As a "latino" as slick would call me- I hereby demand that slick hand over half of his existing wealth and future income to me because of his crime of white privilege.

There's most definitely unconscious social programming going on that pushes exactly that viewpoint. Across our culture, whites (and white males more specifically) wind up being the de facto "good" standard, even with a lack of anyone trying to present them as such. I'm not sure if it was ever brought up here, but there was a rather heartbreaking study done where little girls of a few different races were presented two dolls, one appearing white and one their own race, and asked to pick which one was "prettier" and which one was "uglier." The vast majority of them picked the white doll as prettier, and gave the reason "because it's white" when asked to explain. Long before these kids have any conscious knowledge of the social aspects of race, they're already thinking along those lines.
