Controversial Movies
Disney Jr. is showing the animated Disney film-'Robin Hood'. In the first minute, they mentioned Crusades in the Holy Land and the whole film is about income redistribution. Can you imagine the outcry were this a current release? The Little People love it....there's foxes with bows and arrows!

Re: Controversial Movies
Yea, that “spell check” thing is useless, if it’s an actual word.

Re: Controversial Movies
One of my childhood favorites. Excellent movie. More importantly it's not a politically-motivated film, so your topic here is a 1-way ticket to nowhere.

Re: Controversial Movies
my point, Thorne(and agree about the movie) is that political correctness on both sides would prevent the film from being made in 2015.

Re: Controversial Movies
I'm not buying it. Hollywood loves pointing out the crusades and it likes feigning support for income redistribution...from it's ivory towers and Canadian movie sets where their income is safe...
And I think that movie is remade a couple time a year in one adaption after another.

Re: Controversial Movies
do you even realize that I'm talking about a CHILDRENS movie, made in the late 50s, early 60s, Will? Or, were you too busy whining about liberals to notice my whole freaking point?

Re: Controversial Movies
yea, your point was, according to you, that movie wouldn't be made today because of PC.
I reject the premise you proposed.
For the reasons I cited.

Re: Controversial Movies
I don’t understand the premise here, there are plenty of movies being made today that include or even comprise completely of political material…Avatar is the perfect example.

Re: Controversial Movies
decent example....I heard much blustering about Avatar sending some quasi-political message. It wasn't a kid film, yet still caught that goofy flack. I've heard similar complaints, equally far-fetched, about kids films, NONE of which came close to actually MENTIONING religious crusades in a positive light(or matter of fact light), none spent an hour and a half arguing the justice and goodness of robbing from the rich. So, maybe it would have been made, but I can just imaging the outrage and protests.

Oh…kids movies…sorry, yea Hollywood is too busy selling kids consumer products to give a damn about politics.

Re: Controversial Movies
that trend is across the board. Most adult oriented movies I've seen in recent years seem like product placement exercises in business class.

Re: Controversial Movies
I could just imagine the flak Disney would receive if they released 1950's robin hood today.
Animal cruelty; racism; communism; women being subjugated; tyranny; etc. It would be enough to make your head explode.
And avatar. Heh. A remake of FernGully.

Re: Controversial Movies
I had similar thoughts watching Dumbo with the grandkids....it had it all, stereotypes of jazz musicians, drunkeness, racial stereotyping, etc.

Re: Controversial Movies
And then of course there is the film "Pretty Baby". where was all the PC when that came out and would it ever get released today?

PC didn't exist in the 70's... and definitely not.woodchip wrote:And then of course there is the film "Pretty Baby". where was all the PC when that came out and would it ever get released today?

Didn't Disney make Pirates of the Carribean? Seems like it checks all those boxes.Ferno wrote:I could just imagine the flak Disney would receive if they released 1950's robin hood today.

Hollywood isn't afraid of using those situations, they just make sure the obvious parallel to modern reality characterizes the politically correct targets.

Re: Controversial Movies
man, you saw a different series of 'Pirates' than I did.......nothing CLOSE to what Disney put on the screen in the 1950s and 60s. I see, though, that you've managed to keep your righteous indignation against 'Hollywood' up on your list of boogeymen to fear. Funny, really funny! How you folks even sleep at night, surrounded by such dangers, is beyond me.Will Robinson wrote:Didn't Disney make Pirates of the Carribean? Re: Controversial Movies
slick all I said was Hollywood isn't afraid to touch on a subject but they simply make sure politically incorrect behaviors are attributed to their preferred targets.
It doesn't make them a 'bogeyman' to me. They are story tellers and people telling stories haven't scared me since I was 8 or 9. Hell, I read your stories all the time and you don't scare me, I sort of feel sorry for you most of the time.
