My grand-daughter is really into something similar called Skylanders. It uses something similar with a platform and figures. Each figure has different abilities and can be hot-swapped as shown. I devious and ingenious marketing ..er.. tool...and if I get this that's what I'll be. ...

I've seen them at the store, but I'm not sure exactly how they work. I wonder if it's like Magic The Gathering on your tv.

Skylanders is a kind of RPG/shooter with swappable characters. Each ranging from about $8-$10 all the way up to $25.

Yeah, Disney also has a similar setup called Infinity. It really is a stroke of marketing genius; the damn thing pretty much prints money.
(But srsly, LEGO GLaDOS? Waaaaaant.)

I'd consider myself an AFOL... and I'm not really too sold on this move. My guess is that the market for this type of thing is already fairly full, and I'm not convinced that the portal spin on the interchangeable character games will have staying power. My understanding: Skylanders is RPG/Shooter with different characters, Infinity is more like a sandbox game with other mini games - again with interchangeable characters. What gives them staying power is high replay-ability where the different character's spin makes the replay interesting - do you think that's possible with a portal-style puzzle game? I'm not convinced. (Of course, I've been wrong plenty of times before.)
