Let me toss some bah humbug out here...

Wasn't he against same sex marriage? The Supreme Court ACA victory basically cleaned up a typo rather than settling some grand constitutional question about the law. Fast track for trade agreement authorization can probably be considered a win, but probably not something people will celebrate.

People do change their minds, Vander. Even presidents. Good to see he changed it for the betterment of all.

no, but he did run the 2008 campaign being very wishy washy, with the focus on Partnerships. Still, he always got the legalities in play, despite being quite the politician regarding what to call it.

quite true. Now, had the ruling gone the other way, it would need to be re-written by Congress. Given the current makeup of Congress, do you really think the bulk of the law would have survived THAT process?

I return to the matter of the current and recent Congresses(even Dem ones).....do you want THESE people tinkering with trade negotiations? If so, why? They have to vote on the final result, which is all well and good, but I really don't want to see them drag agreements out, or stall them to put pet provisions in for their paying handlers.

It's not that I want them mucking with stuff, but I think an up or down vote on the entire package removes the possibility of debating and voting on individual provisions. Not saying it wouldn't turn out any differently or even worse, but I think some of the provisions would have a hard time on their own if they weren't tied up in a huge package.

put another way, would any of these things taken place if Obama was not the President, and we'd had McCain or Romney?

1, ACA--never happened
2. Gay Marriage--Attorney General would be fighting against it in SCOTUS
3. Trade deal authority--maybe.....but more likely the Dems would have filibustered it.

This country is going to regret #3 sometime in the future, mark my words. There was a reason the dems were against it.
