If you watched the Republican debate on Thursday, Aug. 6th with the top 10 polling candidates for president, who do you think upped their chances for the GOP's nomination?

If you didn't watch the debate or have no interest, please don't vote in this poll.

just voted for one, but here is my breakdown, in order of finish:
1. Rubio--came off with the most compelling reason to look to him(youth, the world is changing). Got noticed, which, with Trump sucking the air
out of everything, counts for a lot.
2. Trump--simply by being there, being Trump and not absolutely freaking out.
3. Kasich--came off as the most thoughtful, palatable and professional of all. Needed the exposure. Helped to be in his home state
4. Cruz--provided the well-spoken alternative to Trump, for the angry white guy vote
5. Christie--stood up firmly, answered pretty well. Annihilated Paul.
6. Bush--sort of bland, avoided real gloves-off stuff. Stayed out of trouble.
7. Walker-came out strong, but still just looks like a weasel, and a not-too-bright weasel at that.
8, Huckabee--clearly WAY over his head on foreign policy, appeals to folks who feel abortion is the major threat to the nations future
9. Carson--stumbled at times, incoherent at others, failed to generate any spark.
10. Paul--should shut it down now. You could smell the desperation from here.

that said, Fox didn't do too badly managing the crowd, after a VERY awkward start. Trumps answers in a normal world would have doomed his campaign forever, but his base doesn't work in a normal way. The thought occurred to me that if the GOP could put Kasich and Rubio together for the General, they might be able to be competitive. NONE of these people made Obama look anything less than VERY Presidential, at the end of the night...
I have no idea how 70% of the public would view anyone on that stage as a trade up.

I think Jon Stewart won by default, and he taped before the damn thing even happened!

many of my fishing buddies claim to have gone to Fox' alternative programming--the Hooters Swimsuit Contest. I am such a political geek, watching these guys until 11 pm.

Stewart has always been a failure. Nothing but a leftist propagandist.

You haven't watched him lambast Obama then.

Say what you will about the clown limo, those guys were asked some very hardball questions, I doubt the upcoming Democratic debate sponsored by PBS will even come close.

Who won?

I think the only one that lost anything in that debate was Trump.

Yeah, but some of their answers were downright scary. The answers were even scarier in the first kindergarten debate for those who didn't make the cut for the main debate. No surprises from Trump. A blowhard will always be a blowhard.

everyone gets to have an opinion, but I dare say the VAST majority of Americans feel otherwise.

The most idiotic question of the night was: 'Any word from God?'

No Megyn, that voice in your head isn't God. It's the sign of a mental illness.

For those of you who may think Trump came out of the debate losing anything, Au Contraire:

as was noted, Trump is appealing to people in the GOP who are fed up with virtually everything, including their own party leadership. Those folks don't care if he calls women slobs or worse, those people don't care if he demonstrates that he hasn't the first clue about much of anything pertaining to the job, they don't care if he was an avowed Dem less than a decade ago, and Hillary and Bill attended his last wedding. They want to see the applecart upset. These are the same nutjobs that are just fine with defaulting on national debts, closing down the government, etc. And, they are the lunatics running the GOP asylum now, as I've been warning you. Woody, you seem to be gleeful at this news now, let's see how you feel in a year......

Yeah, that one made me cringe. What person in their right mind would say that they hear voices from God? And yeah, it's considered a sign of schizophrenia. I notice that everyone walked very lightly answering that one. They knew better than Megyn.

If it makes you feel safe, keep thinking that way. The only nutjobs are those that think Planned Parent isn't doing anything wrong or that Hillary was only keeping recipes on her server. Even some of my liberal friends are tired of the Dems hand polished rhetoric and like what Trump is saying.

Agreed. I was good, but a little short on some important topics that will surely be tackled later.

I came out of the debate thinking a Bush/Rubio ticket would be tough to beat. I also felt they all did a fairly good job and it was easier to tell who the losers were than the winners. I think Cruz, for as little time as he got, really whiffed the ball. Carson had a couple good moments but was lackluster, overall. Same with Walker and Kasich and Christie. Trump did good. He's got a lot of personality, but that doesn't change the fact he's completely unelectable.

Looking forward to the next one.
