early observations on Bernie Sanders

well, it would appear that for now, Sanders is the Dem front runner. Part of the reason for that is, akin to the disgust of GOP voters with their establishment, the Dem base feels similarly. What is amazing, and likely speaks to the very different worldviews of the two parties and their supporters is HOW Bernie goes about the process. He has risen to the top by steadfastly REFUSING to attack the other candidates in the field, emphasizing issues in some detail. Contrast this with Trump rising by essentially savaging all others and thus turning the GOP nomination process into a mudslinging contest(soon to rev up into a true free-for all, I suspect). Now, I am not sold on all of Sanders solutions, by any means, but I do like his appoach to politics and his valiant attempt to bring politics back to being a debate of ideas, not bombast.

another reason to like Bernie Sanders:

he can take his message to an essentially opposition audience, and a civilized exchange breaks out. Gawd, we need more of this on all sides. He shows both a grasp of what the founders intended our naton to be, and a courage of conviction seldom seen in politics. It's easy for Santorum, Huckabee or Cruz to roll into Liberty and feed red meat to the faithful. Not so for Bernie to go and seek common ground....and, seeking common ground is what our system is designed to do, at its best. For it's part, kudos to Falwell Junior and his college for inviting and welcoming all declared candidates in a civilized fashion, as well.

That's the thing. Have a genuine discussion of opinions and ideas even if you disagree, not call everyone under the sun vile names because you want to rile up your base or call yourself superior because you're the highest on turd mountain.
