Thinking LCD for DVI use?

Got a DVI input which currently has a D-SUB dongle on it? Thinking LCD for your primary monitor? XBitLabs reviews the Samsung 172X.

Here's the wrap up:

"If you are convinced that response time is the final factor holding you back from getting an LCD, you may be fairly surprised with the 172X. Kudos to Samsung for producing the first 17" 12ms LCD, and doing an excellent job with it."

I'm gonna test one. Think it might almost be time to go all-LCD.

It doesn't make the distinction between rise and fall, or else I'm blind...

Anyway, what's the typical rise and fall for a CRT? Because 12ms seems high for CRT standards, but then again I could just be confused.

Anyway, I invested over a month's pay into a 22inch CRT two years ago, and I plan to stretch my investment as long as possible ;)

Using the 172X the last two months -- very nice LCD, no ghosting, great colors. Had to send the 1st one back tho -- cluster of three red pixel in the center of the screen. This one has one red one 1/2" from the top border, doesn't bother me. Make sure you buy at a shop w/ a zero dead pixel warranty.

Edit: 172X on THG

Edit2: It's impossible to get panels w/ Hydis screens -- /me thinks they are a hype.. ;)

I don't notice any ghosting effects or any problems what so ever with my NEC DiamondPoint V50LCD. I think quality is better than performance ratings, especially if you can't tell the difference. You want something to invest in that can last a very long time. Then again, I have never tried Samsung. I hear they are good, but not as good as NEC. But if you have the money to spend, more power to you. This is only my opinion. Your eyes may be more sensitive than mine and notice a difference between 25ms and 12ms.

Lucky you -- seems that Hercules only sold one batch in the US and I's a day late :(
