I'm actually half serious. This country's gun fetish is ridiculous, and the antiquated 2nd amendment was written at a time where the height of gun technology was a single shot musket. I completely agree with you on merits. But I've learned to stop worrying and love the gun.

In my view, political capital spent on gun control is wasted. You can ban all gun sales today, and there are still half a billion guns in America. There has always been too many guns, there will always be too many guns. It's a lost fight.

Try to imagine the perfect conservative candidate. Now imagine if that same candidate favored gun control. What do you think the level of support from conservatives would be? Guns aren't what I consider to be the most important issue, but for a sizable constituency it is. And these people, no matter how backwards you and I may think they are on this issue, have the exact same vote you and I do. They will never be convinced that they don't have a god given right to own great killing power, and they will fight as hard as they can to stop any small encroachment on that right. And how many of those people might be agreeable to us on other issues, but will never vote for a Democrat because we're all trying to take their guns.

It's naive, I know. They'd never vote for a Democrat anyways. But hey, lets keep banging the drum for gun control. It's obviously working.
