French Honor

Post by woodchip »

Sorry (not really) but here we go again. Our favorite country to bash just seems to go out of it's way to find the one cow pie in the middle of a large pasture and step in it. Jockstrap Chiroc has decided not to attend Reagans funeral even though he is presently in the country. Seem he (Chiroc) has to scurry back to France to check if the peasants have revolted.

First of all, it's Chirac.

And oh, you think the american diplomats and politicians have never done anything that other communities found offensing?

First of all, it's offensive.

And oh, don't you think that it's diplomatically unwise for Chirac to skip out on Reagan's funeral? So much for mending ties... Or are Americans just not allowed to be offended in your little world?

I'd dig through google news looking for the last 10 times american dignitaries did something offensive abroad, but I just can't be arsed. Suffice to say, let him who is without guilt throw the first stone.

Who cares? Did Chirac even know Reagan or have any knowledge about him? Why would it matter? I agree with Merlin, GW wouldn't go to a former French Prime Minister's funeral, and nobody would care. I'm not saying I like the French, but I think this is the right (and Woodchip) just trolling :P

I think what would be more interesting to see is if Chirac attends Saddam's funeral- which he is more likely to do since he was a good friend of the monster.

Lol @ Bash.

No troll intended so those of you with a receding brainline that think otherwise...phrrrppp (wetly of course :P ). I could understand Le Grandest Beak not attending if he was already in France but the guy was here already. Just poor taste in my estimation.

Same. It's a diplomatic misstep in my opinion, but nothing extremely bad.

I don't think so. I didn't watch more than 10 minutes of it myself. As far as I'm concerned, the guy died years ago, his body was just late in catching up to his mind. As much as I admire his work and agree with his politics, I think the whole thing is being drawn out far too much.

we aren't internationally known people as mister chirac is though. if we didn't go to the funeral, nobody would care. we cant have everyone in the country be there. if he was here already and did go it would look good, at least he could have faked a smile, sat through it, and earned some praise for his behavior. instead, he didn't, some people scoffed, and that's that. it's a pretty minor thing, but he probably should have went if he cares about brownie points.

It may have been a calculated decision, take some heat from the ugly americans for not going but avoid taking much more heat from his own countrymen if he did attend. He did just cooperate to some degree with Bush, maybe he doesn't want to bend over too far in one week.

Why are we (the US) so preoccupied with France? It is virtually a third world country that aside from Sophie Marceau, never produced anything of any substantive value.

I say we just ignore them altogether and go about our business.

France has importance due to having full veto power in the U.N...unfortunately.

Oh and Zuruck, speak for yourself. Unless of course you would care to have a intimate party for two and find out who the pissee and who the pissor are.

Dedman, You wouldn't have the Statue of Liberty without France. Wouldn't have much of the FIA racing if not for France. Wouldn't have French pastries, best Wine's, best world chefs. So think before you speak.

The Statue of Liberty, hmmm, I have to give you that one. FIA racing, pastries, wine, and chefs: sorry, I said substanative value. These all fall short.

So we have Sophie Marceau and Lady Liberty. Other than that France doesn't have squat to offer. Oh wait, there is one more thing. Horrendous body odor...or is that Belgium? Oh well, I guess there really isn't much difference is there?

that's enough off-topic French bashing. Since we seem to be done talking about Chirac, I think we're done with this thread.
