Hollywood is liberal, so why is the industry not bristling with diversity?
Hollywood was founded mostly by Eastern European Socialists, so why is the industry not hemorrhaging at the seams with fairness and equality?
So why isn’t the industry just oozing with all of the good stuff liberals and socialists are always talking about?
Hollywood is the living example of how a group can talk the talk, without walking the walk.
*In case you don’t know, this has become a really big issue.

You forget Spidey... Hypocrisy is the lifeblood of liberals and progressives.

Because, they're not liberals anymore, they're a bunch of insular, self-serving, nouveau riche bigots who only
pretend to be liberals. They've clearly long forgotten their roots.

I was going to give a shorter version of TCs points. Hollywood ACTORS might be liberal as a whole, but they are merely employees of a bunch of old, crusty, white guys.

Well my points about being liberal and socialist is aimed right at those crusty old white guys, not the rank and file, who have nothing to do with this issue.

What exactly are you talking about here? Can you give some examples?

Examples of what?
Being liberals?
No, if you want to make the argument that I'm wrong, then fine, but no I'm not going to "prove" something that is a well known fact.
Or are you asking about the diversity issue, if so, just check out the Oscars this year, and all of the talk about the lack of diversity in Hollywood.

you're the one who made the assertion. Without you providing any context of what you mean, we just don't know where to go with this.

You want to know something really ironic? The reason Hollywood is the biggest center for movies today is because the studios originally set up shop all the way out there on the west coast in order to avoid having to pay for copyright licenses for their film adaptations. Copyright disputes were were typically handled in New York at the time, so the distance allowed them to perform copyrighted works without having to license or pay for them and easily get away with it. So the Hollywood movie industry, yes that exact same industry that comprises the MPAA today, was literally founded on copyright infringement.

It's just that the statement "Hollywood is liberal, so why is the industry not bristling with diversity?" needs context. Liberal how? And how do you define diversity? What are you boundaries for what constitutes "Hollywood?" All movie makers or just those whose headquarters are in Los Angeles? I know some people who live in Hollywood proper and I visit them regularly since it's just 1h:45m away from my place, so I get to see the back end of "the industry" whereas most people only see the front end. Clarification is needed, that's all.

I guess that could be true, but the industry claims they (the Eastern European movie producers) were being discriminated against in the then center of the movie industry…New York.
Ha! Look at that…more irony.

This is a current events issue, so if anybody here is not keeping up with currents events, then by all means feel free to avoid this thread. The “context” has been in the news for a few weeks now (at least the news I watch being the PBS show “The NewsHour”) I will look for a link...
But don’t expect me to do the prove water is wet thing.

Thanks. I don't pay attention to "Hollywood" because 99% of all mainstream "entertainment" is crap. I agree this is a problem, and it would have worked itself out by now if it were not for the fact that the people controlling the content are also controlling the avenues of media delivery. Hollywood is in bed with Telecom. There are brilliant creators in every cultural niche but how can you see their content?
As I write this I feel myself going into a pages long rant about "what's wrong with Hollywood" and how Walt Disney ruined America, but I feel my blood starting to boil so I'll stop here. Instead I'll leave you with
Dave Chappelle.

Dude, I don’t pay attention to “Hollywood” either, this issue just happens to be a news story about Hollywood.

Heh, sometimes I can't tell the difference between news and Hollywood, but that's another (related) topic.

Another bit to support Spidey's premise:
Despite the perception of being progressive regarding female characters, Hollywood is far behind international filmmakers in a simple metric of gender bias:

There's another good thing that came out of this move. We finally got rid of all those horrid New York accents that were prominent in most of the pre-1950's movies.

I think you're thinking of the
Mid-Atlantic accent, which was very different from a New York accent.
