frankly, I think the analogies to Mussolini are far more apt. Someone claiming to run everything right, with no specifics.

Hail Hilter.
Just for those who don't have a life...that is a reference to a comedy routine.

Trump is Huey Long reincarnated, with the same craving for power, control and stature to match his blimp-sized ego, except he's now wearing Republican clothes and business ideals. Hail the new Republican Kingfish.

What? So you don't think we now have a Republican Kingfish in the form of Trump? And that's it's only a socialist progressive disease? Think again woody. The disease of power craving and abuse knows no party or class, and this time, it happens to be YOUR guy and you WILL eventually have voter's remorse and maybe even start thinking of that bad Republican word, impeachment if Trump gets elected. If you think Long is closer to Sanders, there's one huge difference. Ego. Sanders doesn't have one anywhere near as gigantic as Trump's.

At least with Trump you have someone who already has power...unlike people like Bernie or Hillary (speak about lusting after power.)

Wait, Trump has more power than the person holding the third highest office in the United States government? How do you figure that?

Are you talking about Kerry? Didn't realize he was running for president.

Yeah, but is his kind of power good for the country, or only himself? I'm guessing only for himself and his ego. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump plasters his name in gold all over the White House and every presidential monument in D.C. like some despot dictator would.
I do see Hillary lusting after power, but Bernie is pretty laid back IMO. I've not seen any evidence that Bernie loves power like Trump does.

except, old Huey had a long record of delivering services and other goodies for his citizenry, all the way up the ladder.

But slick, Trump would only deliver goods and services up HIS side of the ladder.

sort of my point, TC. As a political or governmental leader, Trump isn't fit to tie Huey Long's shoes. I don't get the 'power' Trump has bit, either. I'll be willing to bet that if Trump shows up a some enclave of real power(Saratoga, for the sales, the Hamptons, at certain restaurants, etc, etc) at the same time as Bill Gates and Irenee DuPont, with only two seats vacant, Trump is sent packing. He's a gauche wannabe in certain circles, and he knows it. That is why he has the egotistic, self-aggrandizing streak to him. All the fancy trappings and branding won't ever buy him that sort of acceptance, because they won't buy him class.

I agree that Trump is a gauche, big mouthed wannabe, but that's the problem, he's got an awful lot of "want" in order to assuage that humongous ego of his. If he gets elected as president, he's already gotten an automatic ticket into the power class. People of Gate's and DuPont's stature would have no choice. Deal with Trump or get screwed and you know Trump hates getting the short end of the stick. I also wouldn't put Huey Long up on any pedestal either. He's one of the best examples of one of the worst liberal demagogues in history that never should have gotten in any kind of power. It all went to his head and he abused it.

maybe. Jimmy Carter would differ.

people of that stature can safely avoid any contact with the guy, and I'm sure they generally do. I cannot picture anyone of that class wishing to deal with Trump in any way, business or personal. Friends from West Palm of longstanding find the Donald to be a complete Dick.
I also wouldn't put Huey Long up on any pedestal either. He's one of the best examples of one of the worst liberal demagogues in history that never should have gotten in any kind of power. It all went to his head and he abused it.
well, to be sure. However, looking at a certain type of politician, he was considered very effective. That was what got him power in the main.Delivering the goods makes people overlook the theft going on.

And now we have Trump, one of the sleaziest businessmen in the country, dabbling in politics. I can see where that's going.....
