Turning of the Tide

Seems like it's been going on for years that key note speakers have been predominately liberal and speaking to quiescent audiences. Welp, things have changed:
Non-Latino graduates and their guests at California State University, Fullerton’s College of Communications booed the Univision anchor and yelled at her to leave the stage, according to a student who was at the ceremony.

In social media posts following the incident, the Peabody Award-winning journalist said she didn’t notice the uproar and chalked it up to "sad racism on the rise."

One person, whose handle is @JakeHolzschuh, responded on Twitter, “We were upset that your address was aimed at one ethnicity instead of the whole class. Had nothing to do with racism.”
As this may resonate I'm wondering if colleges will now take a harder look at who they invite to speak. Bill Clinton speaking at Wellesley College anyone?

is that so?

alright, how about you explain why the only places we can find that sentence is fox news, youngcons and freerepublic?

Lets play Mr "intellectual" Ferno. Just what sentence are you referring to? By using the word "that" means you are looking for 1 sentence out of the three I posted. So which one Mr intellectual?

I just watched the movie made about George Wallace. He went up to Harvard to make one of his racially-charged hate stump speeches when he was running for president. He was booed and shouted off the stage and almost beat up when he tried to leave the venue. His views on blacks were not appreciated by the northern and more liberal youth.

So the non-Latino members of the audience booed the Univision anchor. Don't you mean the "white" members instead of the non-Latino members? That says more about Trump's hateful race-baiting speeches, the perpetuation of our country's near constant white privilege issue and the continuing sad state of race and immigrant relations than anything else, even in a country made up of immigrants from all over the world.

by the way, the proper term for these are 'commencement speakers', whereas 'keynote speakers' are the feature of conferences and conventions.

the first sentence. obviously. That led to the three sites I spoke of earlier, which contained the second, third, and the rest of what you posted.

/waits for the inevitable denial.

Obviously? Are we supposed to read your mind (though I think entering that morass would be akin to wandering Al Capp's Dogpatch after the inhabitants imbibed too much on Sadie Hawkins Day )?

Because you have the intellectual capacity of Lil Abner here's a few more links:

So Ferno, you want more links or do you think you can do a real google search on your own?

At least one of these new articles links directly back to fox news as the "original article".

this thread is hilarious. Can we all just agree that most folks seek out limited little 'news' sources that confirm their biases, and to avoid that apparently is too much work for many.

I can agree that not all news is presented across the board.

What's even more hilarious is that THIS is the original story.

http://www.ocweekly.com/news/univisions ... ch-7207980

Once again, faux news takes the original source, distorts it thinking no one will notice, and publish it. Then the gullibles eat it up.

that you didn't check your sources.

So you are saying it is untrue or are you trying to deflect because you are not honest enough to agree with the statement...merely because I'm the one who posted it?

That black and white thinking is pretty funny.

Look again. My problem is that fix news and young cons ran a distorted version of that story. Read the actual story and then get back to me.

So from your link:
Univision's María Elena Salinas Gets Booed at Cal State Fullerton Grad Speech
But alas, reality sunk in, and audience members began booing Salinas
In essence the same as what other sites are saying. So whats your point (if you even have one)

so, I post an opinion piece, fleshed out from top to bottom with professional analysis, historical data and the like but you dismiss it because it is listed as an 'opinion' piece, yet you have issues with Ferno over this example? Nice consistency.

Was the speaker not boo'd? How is this a opinion if it happened?

uh nope.

You skimmed the actual story. No surprise there. She got booed because she started speaking spanish exclusively. the 'reality sunk in' part was from the person reporting it becuase she didn't want any racial aggression creeping into the graduation ceremony. But the distorted story you grabbed your initial quote from paints a different picture.

My point is this: You're showing exactly why the echo chamber is so problematic. you've been detached from reality. No surprise there, either.

Only detachment is exhibited by you as you"detached and ignored the last sentence from your rebuttal:
One person, whose handle is @JakeHolzschuh, responded on Twitter, “We were upset that your address was aimed at one ethnicity instead of the whole class. Had nothing to do with racism.”
So I still don't get what you are trying to attribute to me. I suggest you re-read my whole OP instead of trying to focus on one aspect

I like how the topic of this thread, "Turning the Tide" along with the angle of the posted article almost implies white people taking a stand against Latinos. White Power everyone!

Not really relevant if your “portal” is always one sided, because that is the face you present here.

nonsense. I've posted from primary sources ranging from HuffPO to Breitbart and everything in between. For business stories, especially, MSN will be the initial link from my Business news feed.
