So Hillary Clinton said that Colin Powell told her to use a private server for her emails:

Now the truth comes out. Powell never said to that to Hillary:
So just another case of lying thru her teeth.

Perhaps your confusion lies with Hillary saying Powell told her it was ok at a dinner party. Did he say he used one (set up vastly different than what she used) yes. Did he tell her to , no.

all Powell said was that he didn't recall a dinner party conversation from 8 years ago. Do you? I know I don't remember the details of most.
He DID send her a freaking MEMO, and was in fact using an AOL account for his email. How much do you think Americans really care about this stuff, by now. It is seeming, more so by the day, as if Hillary's server was more secure than those of State or the NSA. She actually may have kept us SAFER by dint of her private server. Moreover, it is now clear that uses of private servers were routine by the other occupants of the office post 9/11.

Now Powell says clinton is trying to pin the scandal on him:
"Her people have been trying to pin it on me," Powell, 79, told PEOPLE Saturday night at the Apollo in the Hamptons 2016 Night of Legends fĂȘte in East Hampton, New York.
"The truth is, she was using [the private email server] for a year before I sent her a memo telling her what I did," Powell added.

so, she wondered about whether it was the safe course to take, and asked his opinion. Where is the issue? Oh, that's right, it's all you have to run on.
