The Environmental Protection is admitting to a spill from a treatment plant it set up after it dumped 3 million gallons of toxic wastewater into a Colorado river last year.

The EPA said Thursday night that the spill happened on Tuesday, and officials are still attempting to determine how much and what metals were contained in the sludgy discharge, according to the Associated Press.

From the same article:

"A large amount of rain in Colorado caused the treatment facility to overflow and some of the untreated water to spill into the waterways."

So the EPA under Obama couldn't factor in heavy rains in planning the treatment facility? Figures.

except the facility predated the administration and Congress' GOP caucus has fought superfund status and the more permanent and complete remediation for over a decade and a half.

Except after the first spill over, you'd think they would of grasped the problem and fixed it. Got plenty of money to waste for other things so cost should of not been a problem.

I like how you used the 2015 image for the 2016 spill. #crookedthunderbunny

You know just because there's a theoretically possible anti-Obama position to take doesn't mean you have to try to take it every time.

Why not, slick does  And who else do you blame other than the guy in charge.

It depends on if the guy in charge is a Republican or a Democrat.

I'm just in awe that, along with all his other expertise, now Woody seems to be an expert on environmental reclamation and remediation. Please, give us your easy fix for the situation. With details and specs, please.

The easiest "fix" would have been to keep private enterprise from mining the metals at all. Since private enterprise already made the giant mess, they should be responsible for cleaning it up too. But since they're all long gone along with their profits, I see they just left it up to the tax paying public to clean it up.

I'm looking for where I said easy. Give me a billion dollar budget and I'll show you how to do it. But hey, let those who do have billion dollar budgets and fail to do their job, you seem to give them a pass. Is this any different than you blaming Bush for the response to Katrina?

Woody would blame Obama for his anal warts if it was expedient to do so.

Can't we say the same of some of the members here blaming Bush for everything when he was in office?

Central government is obviously the wrong tool to use for environmental protection. It needs to be left to private enterprise market based solutions. Companies will volunteer to label their products to state their environmental impact, and the market will decide whether or not we are willing to trade this impact for the product. Waste contaminants will be cleaned by the company because if they don't, the market won't buy their products. Once they're out of business and can no longer clean their mess, they will be held up as a cautionary tale for other companies, who will then step up and clean the site for better brand recognition.

Or something.

Might want to look into Superfund sites.

Pollution can be laid at three doorsteps…

Industry
Government
The Consumer

Of course when it comes to cleaning up the mess, everybody pretends innocence and points their finger at their favorite boogeyman.

Want to see who is polluting the planet…go find a mirror and take a good look, and BTW…that is the same person who is killing the artificial middle class.

But don’t worry, all of the pollution is happening elsewhere these days…thanks to good ole cheap ★■◆●, and the demand for it.

you fool, they've been trying to get Congress to allow for the money to be spent for over 15 years. They don't make it a superfund site because......wait for it......The Polluters would be subject to massive fines for creating the mess.

From here:
What are the next steps regarding a Superfund listing?

The Gold King Mine is one of 48 mining sites in the Bonita Peak Mining District, which the agency recently proposed to be added to the National Priorities List. The agency is accepting comments regarding this proposed listing through June 6. The remedial investigation is the first step in the site cleaned-up process once a site has been placed on the NPL.
And herre:
Feb. 29, 2016 Update: EPA received a letter from Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper affirming the State of Colorado’s support for adding the Bonita Peak Mining District in San Juan County, Colorado, to the National Priorities List (NPL).

[..]

Feb. 19, 2016 Update: EPA added a letter to Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper seeking the state’s concurrence on adding the Bonita Peak Mining District to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL).

still not funded, Grendel, or was that what you were attempting to show? This has been going on for a long time, now. Colorado wants it on the list, EPA wants it on the loss, Congress denies the funding via targetted riders on legislation. And, so it goes.

Always making a excuse when it is your guy in charge. Funny how Solyndra can get a 500 mil loan and then renege and no one bat's a eye. Or how did that 20 bil get used that Obama required the owner of the Gulf oil rig to pay into Obamas private slush fund. Or hey, how about the non hurricanes we've had for the last 10 year and the money FEMA saved. Can't divert a little? So stop blaming congress and blame the muffin head in the white house for not finding the money.

To bad the Dems didn't attach it to the Obamacare bill they passed. Or use some of the money from the trillion dollar stimulus package. I bet what got wasted would of more than covered any number of proposed superfund sites.

please, you dance like Fred Astaire. Bottom line is that the Dems don't own this, the industrial interests do, and don't wish to pay for the cleanup.

Pointing out that the site is on its way to become a superfund site. The main opposition in the past was local out of fear it would hurt the tourism business. That went out the window w/ the 1st spill in 2015...

first, I've never heard the word 'bigotry' applied to political parties or left/right leanings. There was also nothing the least 'moronic' about the generalization. Hell, we just had McConnell the other day saying that the proudest moment of his career was being able to oppose a moderate SCOTUS candidate, because.....well, simply because his was picked by Obama.
