The reasoning is that since LePage is reacting so violently to being called a racist, he must BE someone who considers himself superior in some way. He really took insult. I mean, he DID want to actually duel with and kill the representative who made the claim, like it was an affront to his white manhood. Most normal people don't react that way, especially an elected official. It's kind of like certain insecure homophobic hetero men who actively loathe and attack homosexuals. The most violent ones are usually self-hating closet cases.

Not standing for the National Anthem is free speech, or have you forgotten what this country stands for? Besides, you're confusing not being patriotic with not being nationalistic. Griping about someone not standing for the Anthem is a nationalistic stance and that's a dangerous road to follow towards a Fascist State.

Jehovah's Witnesses don't stand for the Anthem either because of that idea called "religious freedom". I don't see Americans going after them like they're a bunch of leftie subversives. As long as people aren't disrupting the singing of the Anthem for others, if someone wants to sit quietly, let them sit and quit making a stink about it.

Use that knowledge to extend your empathic circle and make better judgements about people and policy. Remember your privilege when you hear about hardships from both whites and minorities. Understand that your life is hard, but other people have it harder simply because of the color of their skin. Everyone is capable of pulling themselves up by the bootstraps, but some people start on a solid, flat foundation and others start out in mud and quicksand — and it doesn't get easier as you get older because skin color doesn't change.

Or a white fire fighter who didn't get the promotion even though his test scores were higher than the black man who got the spot. Promotions? How about the thousands of blacks who can't get jobs because white people prefer to hire whites? And which whites aren't getting into college? News flash: Everyone can go to college. Didn't get into the one you wanted? Go to another one. They all teach the same ★■◆●.

Not every white person has white privilege.

Don't believe me? Ask the white person on welfare how his privilege is helping him/her. Or the homeless white person how his privilege is helping them.

It's not white privilege. It's class privilege.

That's why I like socialism. In a socialist system, there is no distinction of race, class, belonging to any religion, and everyone, anyone, regardless of income has exactly the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities as all people. Because the health care, education, paid by the state. If you have no job, the state definitely will find a job and free housing for you.
If you ask, I would like to return to pure socialism? Rather no. Yes, socialism is good. Very warm relations between people. But a socialist capitalism like in Norway, for example, I like more.

It's both, really. I'm glad you brought up class because not enough people consider it when addressing the class differences between whites and minorities, and even class differences within those minority communities. Class and race seem to be locked in a feedback loop.

agree with Vision, Class bias is a definite component of our society, and actually is used to fuel racial bias as a smokescreen. As I said to some on the left, just to piss them off, The Class War has been fought, and one side clearly won.
