Radiation would take some time to work its way south. It'll mostly stay in the northern hemisphere. Lower amounts will slowly work their way south eventually... My uncle's home is like a small fortress...and he's armed with multiple firearms. He also used to be a general in the Mexican army- so he may still have connections that would allow us to at possibly make our way further south. At least we'd have a week or a few weeks to ponder ways to survive.

In the late 90s I knew a family who moved in and rebuilt a farm down the road, got goats, a couple cows, chickens, pigs, the works, a few acres of fields, and some forest. They got a wood heat stove that they could also cook with, got a hand crank well pump, canned a whole bunch of food. And on December 31st 1999 they all sat around the television expectantly waiting to see the power go out in cities all over the world.
