No, they're just forum links.

Edit: Wow, Suncho, you really put some hard work in. I hope some of your threads are more successful than the one on the Battle Fields forums, where one of the posters thought he had played a Descent game on Amiga :P. I vote giving you the title "Descent Ambassador" :)

Yeah. I'm checking up on my threads on a daily basis and also putting some D3 plugs in some of other people's threads. If you check out the thread on gamespot, it got a really positive response!

Being condescending is not going to warm them up to the game. Post screenshots instead, and why it's good, not why they (potential players) are bad.

Aww... come on. They were condescending first. I didn't say anything confrontational in any of the other threads because the people were generally nice.

They think I'm some newbie who's never seen the world and found an old video game on the shelf (his first ever) and now he's creaming himself over how good it is. They think that I think this crappy video game is good because it's the only one I know. If I show some backbone, they might give it a second thought.

They said "I've never heard of it so it must suck." Someone's gotta say, "I've never heard of you so you must suck" or something like that. =)

But yeah.. screenshots is a good idea.

BFDD, that "leetness" is what I like about the D3 community. I recognize this game as the most difficult FPS-type game ever made, and I think that the people who get very good at it deserve to be acknowledged as such. Descent is certainly better than any modern FPS, hands down.

Suncho, you should tell them what you REALLY think of Counterstrike. "Predictable, derivative trash." :P I'd like to see how they handle a Pyro >:).

Yea, after I went through the forum list you posted, I noticed that was the only thread. Still, let them be the ones to throw cheap shots. Post the games you play, and why you think D3 is better than them all.

Screenshots! Lets get together with some people in AnotherBox or Moria, and have a few people in Observer take screenies for kills and general mayhem. Then we can put'em all together, grab the best of them, and paste the link in your posts. Or as your signature. Or whatever. Screenies of Anotherbox will have people saying "Hell, 5 years old and looks that good?". If we show them screenies from my machine, they're really gonna be surprised! (My graphics are sooo much better than the default.)

For an interesting show, you could get some MOD screenies from hyperspace too. Find some of the most complex geometrical levels out there and post screenshots. Try some pyromania screenshots; most people are more familiar with D2 than D3, and the sense of familiarity with some of the weapons would be enticing.

I'd like to get a good video of D3. Screenshots don't really say much about the way the game moves.

I know how.... Lets all hop into a couple servers, and I'll make a video of us playing.

how about

bi3
halcyon
Polaris
Moria
B.T.C
S.L.W

I can make a quick video, and put some music to it. I just need some webspace (Like 20-30mb) for people to download it from....

I have webspace, but I'd prefer not to be a download mirror for anything large; as my server is run off the same bandwidth as my normal PC.

Edit: Erk! tie post. Anyhow, if i'm remembering right you can hit f5 or f6 to record video in D3.

Good levels for videos should be Halcyon (4v4 CTF), Damage (8 in anarchy) or Skybox (5 in hoard). For a blast tape some Pacbox action (5 anarchy).

I think polaris is one of the prettiest looking levels. Especially on the out side. Damned if I'm not biased though...

I've been playing with recording videos of D3 lately, got more into it after i read this post but just as i found a satisfying proccess* i burned a channell on my soundcard....i'd be happy to help anyone who would want to try...

*(TV-out from D3 box to capture card on on other box, first encoded with mjpeg so that my crappy second box can keep up with the encoding, and then mpeg4'd, seems to work better than divx for D3 kind of graphics)

A great tool for recording in windows is IUVCR.
For linux, mencoder is the only thing this linuxnewb has used.

Polaris is too big for a video..the observer would spend 1/2 the time looking for fights.

The Core is too broken up, tho' it's one of the better looking default levels. Need something with a little more room, and Napalm. A ship on fire is a beutiful sight, especially a Feeni!

Which reminds me, dont' record Feeni's, or anyone with 56k, we don't need people laughing at the skippage.

As far as I can remember, there's not much to those levels. Same texture throughout, and slightly dim. This nullifies their architecture. (I know they were built barebone on purpose) They are also oversized for a video capture attempt. (Tho' I don't think I've seen the Bree town?)

Bill The Cat would be perfect. Small yet roomy (Good manuverability in the areas, but the level on a whole is small enough that it would not take hours to get a dozen good fights in.), aesthetically lit, architectually aesthetic, and has Napalm! :D No other level can match all those points.

BTC is definitely one of the most architecturally and aesthetically pleasing levels out there, and it's awesome for dogfights.

i thought that a downloadable starters pack would be a nice thing. Including:
- the latest patch (can't remember the number)
- gate (or whatever)
- a few logins (if pxo registration does not work)
- the often played levels (if auto-download doesnt work)
- Mobius D3 Help as html-file.

Pandora:

- 1.4
- PXO is shut down
- There is a generic logon user: Chat, pass: chat ... but PXO is shut down
- the often played levels would make any gamer worth anything cringe and never even bother playing.
- no comment on the last point..as I've nothing to add to it :)

When you decide to do some filming, if you want to have an easy body to shoot at, give me a call :P.

With regards to levels, Halcyon might be good for some fast-paced CTF action. It may not have a lot of eye candy, but things can get pretty crazy in there.
