Progressive School

It looks like the rush to PC has finally reached the classics:
A Virginia school district has “temporarily” banned the classics, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, after a parent complained that her high school-aged son was traumatized by racial slurs used in the books.

How many millions of students read these books and weren't traumatized and yet a special snowflake, reared under the brave new world of protective pc, can't handle it. I'd mention the character ★■◆● Jim here but I suspect this board has some special snowflakes than couldn't handle the name.

you care to hear the whole story? Seeing as how this is my county and the school district I pay taxes to. One individual (1) came forward and filed a formal complaint regarding Huck Finn and To Kill a Mockingbird. By the regulations the Board operates under, they are required to temporarily remove the material for something like 20 days until they hold a formal hearing on the complaint. That is where they are now. I will be shocked if the Board doesn't immediately reinstate the books, and I hope, lecture the complainant upon the fact that archaic language aside, both volumes show relationships of complexity, caring and compassion between races. I must know 50 people descending upon the December Board meeting regarding this issue. The entire county thinks it is ludicrous, black, white, brown, everyone.

oh, and the fact that you'd call the Accomack County School district a 'Progressive' school demonstrates a clear disconnect from reality. Seek help.

Refreshing to hear whats going on. Thanks for clearing that up. Still one of my pet peeves is how one person can disrupt a whole system because they don't like something (not just applicable to your area.)

good to agree for a change. Now, if we could get you not to knee-jerk and assume it was some sinister liberal school board, we'll be getting somewhere, in the new year!!! :D
