I think he's implying that only those filthy liberals do hate crimes, and yes NS, it IS a hate crime. And yes NS, somehow I KNEW you'd be the first one to post this travesty. NS, you're forgetting that hate begets hate and Trump stirred up his supporters using nothing but hate-filled rhetoric for months. Evil is evil, hate is hate, no matter what political affiliation a person identifies with. In fact, Bernie Sanders recently commented on those liberal protestors who go out and rail against Trump using violent tactics and vandalism. He said that it's self-defeating and that it needs to stop if we want to get our message across in a smart and coherent fashion. Smart guy Bernie.

I disagree with his philosophy and ideas- but Bernie is a decent human being.

And he's right. If liberals, blacks and other disaffected people who dislike Trump and what he stands for don't stop acting like a bunch of crazy jackasses in response, we'll lose the whole narrative.

part of what isn't often understood is the rationale and usage in the justice system of hate crime. They are linked, and do make sense(although one can object to them on ideological grounds and be logically valid). The purpose of hate crime law was to allow for a Federal Law to supercede or go around local law and local courts where crimes(violent generally) upon minorities got whitewashed. Thus, you don't really have anything prosecuted as a local 'hate crime'. Some locales have various options to elevate an existing charge due to the aggravation of racial, ethnic, religious, sexual orientation hatred, but the original designation of hate crime was on the Federal Books, and requires specific types of intent and in practice is only used to protect the rights of minorities.

It's sort of the same thinking here as the All Lives Matter crap: yes, we understand that all lives matter, but are decrying that some matter less in REAL LIFE. Yes, hate motivated this crime, as best as we can tell(well stated, Spidey), but it will be prosecuted fully, I am quite sure, so there is no need for any further judicial delay with more charges. Now, if you kept getting a racially hung jury at trial, maybe the law would or could be applied, but otherwise, you're just slowing the punishment down and bogging down the court system needlessly. That is generally the case in all crimes with white victims. Likewise, few cases with black victims go to hate crime status for similar reasons.....it just isn't supposed to be a front line charge.

information specific to Illinois law. Note the language used: Hate Crime law is a sentencing ENHANCEMENT. In other words, you aren't charged with a hate crime, just such designation enters into what class of Felony one is charged with:

so while the sheep and the stupid rail about what they get spoonfed by Fox, and generate the calculated outrage, one CAN locate the actual law and how it is utilized with a bit of extra work. Reality is worth the work to me, NS.......you apparently don't find it so.

and, the DA's office tacked on the hate crime enhancements at indictment, so, NS, is there any point at all to the hysterics from Fox?
