Checked bag had his firearm in it? Some good security in Canada eh? When we went bird shooting out of country, we could not carry ammo with us. And military ID could be fake so lets not jump to conclusions as liberals like to do.

Oh and turns out Canada was a fake news item. Shooter really came flew from Alaska to Fl. I blame Sara Palin.

Sigh. It wasn't fake, it was inaccurate.

Yeah, lets not take the time to make sure we get the facts straight. Hard to say if deliberate (fake) so they can get a scoop or inaccurate because of just plain incompetence.

Or because hey what a ★■◆●ing concept details are uncertain in chaotic breaking-news scenarios.

Serioulsy, why the hell should anyone be allowed to have a gun in checked luggage in the first place.

TG, it's not about having the gun, the question is why was he allowed to have ammo with it. Like I said I traveled internationally with firearms but could not have ammo. Couldn't even have gun cleaning fluid. How this schmuck got away with ammo on board is beyond me.

I was about to grant you that, but according to the TSA's site, you really can carry ammunition in a checked bag, which seems insane. (From what I'm reading it varies widely by plane model if the cargo hold is even feasibly accessible while in-flight, but still.)

Though if we are being brutally honest here, as I saw one commentator note, there wasn't much of a functional difference between the gunman getting the weapon in baggage check, and someone coming off the street at that point, since it's outside of the security checkpoints either way. The real story for the umpteenth time is an individual with a known history of mental illness (and a veteran who didn't receive adequate care to boot, just to double down on it) having free and easy access to firearms. It's like the old Onion headline: "'Why does this keep happening?' asks only nation where this happens on a regular basis."

Somehow I thought ammo would be classified as a explosive and not allowed. Learn something new all the time. As to the mental issues, thats a tough one. He was clearly nuts but how do you find that out before someone goes on a killing spree?

...and a commitment to jihad (though he was beyond clinically insane to begin with regardless.)
He told officials he was hearing voices in his head, some of which were telling him to join ISIS and watch their videos, and was taken to hospital for a mental health evaluation.

I wonder if those officials asked if he owned any firearms like the hospitals do when you go in for a checkup?
