Actually, you're right Spidey, so I spit it. But woodchip did make the above quote in his original thread and when slick posted the picture of Mount Rushmore, it got me thinking how poor old Lincoln would be turning over in his grave right now if he could see what's currently transpiring. Our new "president", who spouted all sorts of bigoted, hateful and racist campaign rhetoric while he was running for office, had the audacity to use Lincoln's Monument as some sort of symbolism for his presidency just as he was taking office. I think it's an epic insult to Lincoln's legacy.

I think Lincoln and Trump have a lot more in common that Obama and Lincoln did.

Excuse me, Woody, but a quick favor? I have to make a few calls and get my hands on a sheet of decent blotter acid. Can you give me like 5 or 6 hours to be able to keep up with your logic on this assertion, and then post your reasoning?

Hey...democrats and progressives are fine with despotism. They elected and re-elected Obama.

It's funny, and sad. I've been putting, for 48 hours now, this simple question to my friends and relatives in the Trump camp: What do YOU expect Trump to do to make your life better? Pretty simple question. Any Obama voter could have answered coherently(albeit likely over-optimistically) 8 years ago. Silence has been the answer except for one, shared response by a few slower witted ones: I like to see liberals sad. Whee! What a vision for America.

I don't think Trump has a bodycount anywhere close to Obama's (or Hillary's). Thousands of people are DEAD through their actions- innocent civilians in many countries INCLUDING Mexico.

Trump ≠ Hitler- until Trump outlaws all dissent, jails dissidents...seizes absolute power, seizes foreign land permanently for 'the fatherland' and/or kills millions of people, he will never will be Hitler.

Every SINGLE republican to hold the office of president in recent memory has been compared to Hitler by the left. It shows how retarded the left truly is. Normal people with common sense can see that what is hyperbole AT BEST- is tired, unimaginative and disingenuous.

To compare this elected president and government to the Führer and nazi Germany diminishes both the credibility of the left AND mocks the memory of the genocide that took place under the monster that was Adolf Hitler.

Trump is a blowhard with a nasty personality that I despise- but until he proves to be the monster you actively want him to be, you're a fool.

[Deleted - Personal shot] Are you that mad that all the money you donated to liberal/democratic cause was just so much currency flushed down the toilet? I hope you don't go off the deep end here and do something stupid that we read about in the papers because as it stands now you strike me as somebody who is out of control with his Trump hate.

He's already proving that. He boasts about his inaugural crowd size and continues to lie about it, even when confronted with video evidence to the contrary. Then tells his press secretary to repeat that lie by hitting the press over the head with it like a truncheon. Trump tells the Park Service to delete all tweets about that same lie because he has the power to do that. What else will he do with that power? It boggles the mind. He sends out his shrill minion to yell at the press about that lie on all the Sunday News shows. Even several Fox News personalities were shocked at Trump's behavior. :o

Then Trump stands in front of that starred wall memorial at the CIA, which NO president has ever done before, breaking age old decorum and thumbing his nose at the CIA. Then he has the gall to stand there and say that he loves the intelligence community, even though there are a bunch of his tweets that counter that. He's a serial liar and is creating a whole new universe where everything he says must be taken as fact or you're a liar and you're against him. Chuck Todd called this the new era of "alternative facts" this morning.

Trump gripes about a fake tweet of MLK's bust being removed, which he was right to complain about and counter and which was retracted quickly. He demanded an apology. That's a fair request in my book, but if he's going to ask that of the press, he should be reciprocating the favor in kind when he's caught lying over and over. When he can't do that, he'll never have trust with the American people. Now, nothing he says is trustworthy.

What's sad is that NONE of this would even be on the news if Trump had kept his trap shut and let these small niggling things just slide into obscurity, like a any man comfortable in his position of power, a man who doesn't need to sweat the small stuff which doesn't really matter in the main scheme of things anyway. It shows me that the man's behavior pretty much, at the very least, borders on psychotic. At the very least, he's an insecure egomaniac.

Intelligent people don't wait to speak out until after someone does something monstrous when they have been throwing out glaring warning signs for months, if not years. Would you sit there and watch a rabid dog run straight at you, only deciding it's time to act after it's already mauling your face?

Unfortunately, the German people let that kind rhetoric influence them for years, which turned them into warring invaders. Bush used similar rhetoric to get us into 2 wars, wars we are still fighting. Somehow I don't think the American people have learned that lesson.......yet.

...and the rhetoric about Russia?

Yes, Putin isn't a great leader to have around- but he is hardly in a position to do enough damage to justify NUCLEAR WAR that nobody would win.

We nearly got into nuclear war at LEAST twice when Obama was in office.

Two:

1) The 'red line' in Syria. (No fly zones against Syrian and Russian air forces- which would have brought us into direct armed conflict with Russia.)

2) Turkey (our NATO 'ally') shoots down a Russian bomber. Thank God, Putin did not respond immediately in kind.

There are also other examples-

The Maidan coup in Ukraine (where the US initiated and supported the overthrow of an elected Russia-friendly leader)

BTW, did you see the "I am a Ukrainian" video? It's practically pulled from "Wag the Dog."

...the build up of forces on the Russian border...and so on.

All that is no different than any of our other ridiculous proxy wars we constantly seem to get involved in for supposed humanitarian reasons or another. It's not just an Obama problem either, it's the military industrial complex problem we've been having ever since WWII and I don't even see Trump refusing to make use of our military to make American strong again. In fact, I see him as more likely to use military force than Obama, because now Trump has ol' "Mad Dog" as his Secretary of Defense. As I've said before, time will tell. Plus, the U.S. has always had a policy of push back against the Russians from as far back as the Cold War. Should that change? Perhaps. But not as long as Putin is around.

As for the Syrian "Red Line" issue, it's a good thing Obama didn't actually enforce that threat, so technically, we weren't even close to getting into a nuclear war. I do remember a lot of Republicans, including you NS, griping that Obama was being weak and instead should have punished Assad with military force like he threatened, instead of wussing out. So should we have enforced that red line or not and potentially brought about nuclear war? Make up your mind. Either we're strong and we make war at the slightest provocation, or we look weak by backing off, even if it's the more rational and safe thing to do sometimes.

And dammit, this thread has been split once already, so a reminder of what the original thread was about.

Lincoln was far more intelligent and grounded than Trump will ever be. Lincoln's words will put Trump to the test. If he fails, he will have shamed both Lincoln and the Bible he had the audacity to take the oath of office with.
