Ted Kennedy's Soviet Gambit
Picking his way through the Soviet archives that Boris Yeltsin had just thrown open, in 1991 Tim Sebastian, a reporter for the London Times, came across an arresting memorandum. Composed in 1983 by Victor Chebrikov, the top man at the KGB, the memorandum was addressed to Yuri Andropov, the top man in the entire USSR. The subject: Sen. Edward Kennedy.

“On 9-10 May of this year,” the May 14 memorandum explained, “Sen. Edward Kennedy’s close friend and trusted confidant [John] Tunney was in Moscow.” (Tunney was Kennedy’s law school roommate and a former Democratic senator from California.) “The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov.”

Kennedy’s message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election.

Senators meeting with the Russians is nothing new- but this incident was far more nefarious than anything Jeff Sessions probably engaged in.

NS, You keep posting all the bad things that the Dems have done, yet you seem to keep glossing over what the Republicans have done as well, like they're angels. It's like you keep saying to us that the Dems are nothing but a bunch of crooks and that the Republicans are nothing but poor innocent victims of all that evil Dem treachery. Yes, what you posted may have a smidgen of truth to it, I'll grant you that. Remember though, ALL politicians are crooks and the Dems are no exception. Politicians are only remorseful when they're caught doing something improper or illegal. Also note that the quid pro quo noted in your post must have never happened, or at least never worked, because Reagan was reelected by a landslide.

Speaking of being traitors to an enemy of the state, let me refresh your memory about a conspiracy theory surrounding President Ronald Reagan and the Iranians. How about the "October Surprise", that Reagan made a supposed deal with the Iranians, before he was even elected, to keep the hostages until after the election, possibly causing Carter to lose the election? That one flew around the country for years, so somebody must have done something or it wouldn't have gotten started in the first place. True or false, at least Reagan was better at covering his tracks than Trump.
