Zero empathy and no care for human life...

...that's what is being taught at our public schools it seems.
Authorities in Florida say that a group of teenagers recorded the drowning of a disabled man last week — and did nothing to help as they made fun of his struggles.

Jamel Dunn, 32, of Cocoa, drowned in a retention pond July 9. His body was recovered July 14, two days after his fiancee reported him missing. Late last week, a friend of Dunn's family came across the video on social media and forwarded to authorities in Brevard County.

In the video, which was published by the Florida Today newspaper Thursday, the teens can be heard laughing at Dunn as he splashes futilely in the water and screams for help.

"Get out the water, you gonna die," yells one, while another yells, "ain’t nobody fixing to help you, you dumb (expletive)." As Dunn disappears under the water, one of the teens says, "Oh, he just died."

Investigators say none of the teens — all between 14 and 16 years old — called 911 to report Dunn's drowning or tried to help the man.

"They just laughed the whole time," Cocoa Police Department spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez told Florida Today. "He was just screaming ... for someone to help him.”

Police said the teens were identified and questioned by detectives, but it's unlikely they will face charges, since they were not directly involved in Dunn's death.

The Brevard County State Attorney's Office called the video a "tragedy" and said the teens had "no moral justification" for not attempting to help Dunn.

Schools used to impart some sense of duty to another human being from an early age- but that doesn't appear to be the case today.

The ★■◆● does this have to do with schools? Maybe try, I dunno, blaming the people who raised the kids?

Gee, where I grew up, schools just sort of taught us things about academic subjects. OUR PARENTS handled morals, with and without assistance of churches and other family members and neighbors. Folks lose the time for that when an economy sucks parents dry just trying to maintain basic subsistance.

One blames the schools, one blames the parents and one blames the economy.

This is yet another symptom of a very sick society, where the blame lies in many places.

And which no one wants to come up with solutions that they don't agree with, in other words, compromise. That requires people working together and agreeing on something. Fat chance.

There are no solutions...

If you think I'm wrong...name one.

Perhaps, given human nature. But isn't that a little pessimistic?

Pessimism or realism…take your pick.

"I can't think of anything, so clearly there can't be anything!"

The floor is all yours...

...............

Oh, and while you are working out some solutions to the problem of people not caring about others…maybe you can whip up a couple solutions to bank robbery and child molestation as well.

It's a human problem. We're our own worst enemy. This case is not an outlier either. And you're definitely right Spidey, that we will all continue to suffer the tolls from one of our greatest failings, because anything we do as a society will at some point trample upon someone else's rights.
