Hate group tracks religious language...

Post by Nightshade »

The hate group known as the "Southern Poverty Law Center" is tracking religious groups it hates:

Southern Poverty Law Center's 'Hate Tracker' Monitors Twitter Mentions of 'Christmas'
here comes the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), with their new project: a “hate tracker” that is monitoring Twitter trends of “extremists,” including topics like “Christmas.”

The SPLC Hate Tracker launched a few months ago with a website (hatetracker.io) and a Twitter account (@splchatetracker). According to the website, the project’s purpose is to “detect trends in a community of far-right Twitter users … a range of extremists -- from the conspiratorial fringes of mainstream conservatism to outright white supremacists.”

Very little of this information is on the @splchatetracker Twitter account, which simply posts the “latest top trend” and “also trending” topics from their data. While some of the topics are associated with white nationalist groups like #altright, #whitegenocide, and #deportthemall, many topics are ones that no reasonable person would consider hateful, like #armynavygame, a reference to the annual college football matchup between the U.S. Naval Academy and West Point, or general news topics.

In recent days, the list has been dominated by Christmas topics, like #christmaseve, #christmas, #merrychristmas, #religion, and #jesus.

Well you've certainly sunk to new lows of idiocy. I don't envy whichever one of us takes this on. Or maybe we'll all be content to sit there and laugh at you.

A little protip at any rate: if someone calls you out for being a bigoted git, the laughable deflection of claiming them to be a "hate group" doesn't change the fact that you're still a bigoted git.

part of the reason for my low profile on this board of late(along with better things to do) is the relentless assault of fascism from NS, and the refusal of the moderation to accept it for what it is.

Well, according to the world NS inhabits, anyone or any group who attacks the far right and it's orthodoxy is a "Leftist" and a "Hate Group" by definition.

reading comprehension is a challenge for you, now? I stated that I DON'T post due to a too tolerant position with regards to fascists and racists. Not my cup of tea, and debate is, or should be, around debatable principles. There should be no room for blatant racism and fascist support.

Funny how a (national) socialist like slick cloaks himself as a defender against fascism when all of his tactics follow those that would make any despotic dictator proud.

What tactics? Calling out your fascist bs isn't a tactic, it is a simple statement of facts. Stop trying to play a victim card, you've been posting fascist propaganda for decades and nobody is buying it but you.

Hmm...worshiping authoritarianism, displaying disgusting levels of nationalism, denigrating "other"-groups at every single opportunity? You're a walking, talking fascist checklist.

And if you still can't tell the difference between the Nazi Party and actual socialism, you must have flunked out of high school.

They're two sides of the same coin. Totalitarianism. The state controls everything (if not in theory, in PRACTICE- which it has been the entire history of "socialism." USSR, Cuba, China, Venezuela et al.)

Oh and of course you'll say- "Oh, but those weren't 'actual socialism.'" Your so-called 'actual socialism' doesn't exist but within limited portions of capitalist free market economies in certain countries - and those "socialist" policies are now FAILING.

Banning all members of a religious group from entering a country (how?) is the most authoritarian position I can think of.

You hate liberalism so much that you and everyone else who voted for Donald Trump is a proponent of "Illiberal Democracy" and authoritarianism, whether you realize it or not.

https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles ... -democracy

https://www.theatlantic.com/internation ... cy/481494/
When the stakes are high, there is more to lose, and if there is more to lose, those on the losing end of a ballot box have powerful incentives to play “spoiler.” Fortunately, in the post-Civil War United States, the stakes have never reached what political scientist Barry Weingast calls the “threshold” at which citizens decide to defend themselves through extra-constitutional means, including by appealing for the military to take sides. This, in part, is why (good) constitutions are so important: They lower the stakes, reassuring citizens that even if their preferred party loses the election, it’s still just that—an election.

Donald Trump, or more specifically what he represents, calls some of these assumptions into question. Trump himself isn’t quite an Islamist, but he is a proponent of a kind of “illiberal democracy,” even if he himself may not be familiar with the term. Drawing on a wellspring of white nativism and machismo, candidate Trump has regularly made demeaning statements about entire groups of people, including African-Americans, Mexicans, and women. His commitment to the protections enshrined in U.S. constitution are questionable, at best, and if we assume the worst, downright frightening (the difficulty with Trump is that he’s not precise with words, so it’s sometimes hard to make sense of what he’s saying). He has expressed support for registering Muslims in a database, elaborating that they could “sign up at different places.” When a reporter asked how this was different from requiring Jews to register in Nazi Germany, Trump said “you tell me,” prompting The Atlantic’s David Graham to note that “it’s hard to remember a time when a supposedly mainstream candidate had no interest in differentiating ideas he’s endorsed from those of the Nazis.” Trump, for good measure, has also refused to disavow President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s internment of Japanese-Americans.

Yay! And when were all members of a religious group banned from entering the country? That hasn't happened in 2017. Maybe you're confusing citizenship with religion?

Citizens from certain states in the middle east were TEMPORARILY banned and not on the basis of religion or else ALL people of a certain religion would be banned from every single other country on the planet.

Alright. Say the religious sect were the Westboro Baptist Church and they happened to originate in Canada rather than the US. Would you ban them from the US for their activities slick?

There's "Good Trump/Bad Trump."

A "Good Trump" thing for instance: Replace the late Antonin Scalia with Justice Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court

"Bad Trump" thing: Just about anything he verbally diarrheas all over twitter.

There are a number of great things that give me a little faith - like telling the UN to go ★■◆● themselves when it's long past due.

Other things that disturb me- like setting back trade deals that will cost us in the long run- and alienating our allies.

There's a huge list of both, but I'm not going to go over everything. :P

Good point Krom! There are actually a few ideas in the Trump administration I'm on board with, but even those have been distorted (for better or worse) once they reach the Legislative Branch. I still contend that America's biggest problem is our bought-for Legislative Branch, though the current Executive Branch is the worst I've ever seen.

I can't make a judgement call on Gorsuch yet, so I won't have an opinion of him one way or another until he has some rulings under his belt. With his religious background, I don't have high hopes. And telling the United Nations to go eff themselves is not a good thing, unless you like the nationalist idea of us going it alone on the world stage like a bull in a china shop, acting like a self-centered, egotistical, second-rate country that no one in the world likes, looks up to, respects or trusts anymore. Since Trump has already degraded our world leadership roles and turned our allies against us, we're pretty much leaving a power vacuum in the world that China will definitely exploit. Bye bye U.S. superpower status. Gawd, no wonder Putin likes Trump.

But I'm guessing that you approve of Trump's little Muslim ban attempts? How bankrupting the country with his great tax plan that gives corporations everything in perpetuity then screws individuals down the road when those tax cuts eventually expire? How about the HUGE debt that's going to result from those tax cuts? How about the fact that those tax cuts are benefiting him personally? How about the fact he's been mixing business and politics to his own benefit, not the people's? How about the fact that he half-assed destroyed Obamacare (the mandate is STILL in effect for last year and this year, so he didn't get rid of that like he promised either) and the healthcare system for the poor without replacing it with something better? How about playing twice or thrice as much golf as Obama after saying HE wouldn't be doing that if he was elected president? How about his constant attacks on the Justice Department and the FBI and his demands that he can do anything he wants with either department like some king? How about Trump's constant lying in the face of verifiable facts and his constant attacks on the free press? The Muslim ban and the last 2 examples are definitely straight out of the fascist playbook and so are some of the examples in the link below.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/20 ... -done.html

But to be fair, I did find some tongue-in-cheek good reasons Trump is good for the country and this list was compiled before he was elected. :P

The only thing I've seen that was deliberate on Trump's part has been his systematic and spiteful dismantling of Obama's legacy, even if it was not in his or the country's best interest. Oh, and next to Trump, Ajit Pai is the other biggest douche bag in history.
