DescentBB 20 years?
I don't remember when this site first went active. CajunAce join date is October 13, 1998. I don't think that's accurate due the crash many years ago, really messed somethings up. How long has it really been now?

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
I believe it went live sometime in 1997 but no record of it. I joined I think in 99 and it was up for years before that.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
Yeah, pretty sure we are already past 20 years by a pretty long shot. I was reading for a couple months before I joined (with an obnoxiously long username, stupid internet newbies). Actually in another month or so I'll have been posting here for 20 years.
The current database doesn't go anywhere near that far back though, there were a couple crashes and resets along the way. There are bits and pieces scattered about the internet archive/wayback machine, but not too much.

It's been so long I don't remember. However, now that you mentioned that. Didn't you go by some Klingon name with a Klingon symbol in your avatar.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
I was able to push it back a little further. There's a post from user HH in the Utilities Development section from 12-18-98 06:43 PM. Only problem, none of the links work.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
Mike 'Koolbear' and I put this board up after a big LAN game in Atlanta. That was in the summer...so, fall / winter '97? So yeah over 20 years ago.
I still can't believe it's still here

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
It shows you that the size of the Descent fan base was huge and it's still going strong. I just saw on GOG.com that they're hyping a Descent 2019 and that's with Overload already released. Old Descenters never die, they keep on kicking robot butt.

I might check out that Descent 2019 when it comes out.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
Why is Descent so popular and long-lived? Hell, I'm still playing the updated versions of D1 and D2, plus Overload. It's a drug addiction that I never want to kick. The mine tunnels keep calling like a siren song. The fact that 2 modders have updated both D1 and D2 for years is testament to Descent's staying power.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
I still prefer D1/2 single over any other (D3/Overload). Don't know what it is but it just "feels" better and more immersive.

Re: DescentBB 20 years?
Stopped flying in D1/D2 decades ago, basically when D3 came out.
The MP (much larger groups of pilots from d1/d2 kali days) for D3 was the best I've experienced.
Nothing has come close since....Overload is decent for SP, but it's not as addictive as D3 for sure.
I remember the DBB from 1999 (registered 8/6/99...still have the registration email lol) but not before....actually, now that I think about it, it might have been Krom who told me about this site
in the gamespy lobby while waiting for the vegas gamespy matches (for a free trip to the tourny)....heh!
--edit--wow, found an old email from KoolBear@descentbb.net sending me Stacy Bremmer's email address (met her at vegas tourny ) to get
prizes from Interplay for our monthly LANs...
awesome!

Look like I'll be a member 20 years in March. What do I get?

I was a lurker for a couple years, finally registering in the year leading up to Orbital's founding in 2001.
