The Texas Democratic Party asked noncitizens to register to vote, sending out applications to immigrants with the box citizenship already checked “Yes,” according to complaints filed Thursday asking prosecutors to see what laws may have been broken.
The Public Interest Legal Foundation alerted district attorneys and the Justice Department to the prechecked applications and included a signed affidavit from a man who said some of his relatives, who aren’t citizens, received the mailing.
“This is how the Texas Democratic Party is inviting foreign influence in an election in a federal election cycle,” said Logan Churchwell, spokesman for the Public Interest Legal Foundation. The group has made its mark by policing states’ voter registration practices.
The Texas secretary of state’s office said it received complaints from immigrants and from relatives of dead people who got mailings asking them to register.
Spokesman Sam Taylor said it was “a pretty large volume of calls.”
He said his office is not able to reveal whether it has been asked to investigate.
Just wow. At least some immigrants are honest enough to come forward with such information. I commend them!

Oh, I was sooo prepared to dump this one, but there were a couple of recent juicy examples about that tried and true blatant Republican tactic, voter suppression, that I had to respond.
If you're a Native American and live on a reservation, those same said resident Native AMERICANS who lawfully live there and aren't required to have an address, can no longer vote in any election henceforth according to the Republicans in North Dakota and SCOTUS, BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE A PHYSICAL ADDRESS. Same issue with any other state in which a Native American Reservation is located. Conveniently, they usually vote Democratic. Nice.
Oh, in Georgia, the Republican Sec. of State, Brian Kemp, who oversees the voting rules, also happens to be running for governor. Talk about rigging things for yourself and your party.
Yes- when you get a drivers' license. Elderly, infirm and disabled people will still have to register some other way however.
And there's the rub for the cases you listed above, access to the polling places and the inability to get to a place to register or even vote. The bastard Sec. State in Georgia, Kemp, was dumping people from the voter rolls under his "exact match" law because of innocuous errors like a missing letters, apostrophes or hyphens. Sure, they had 26 days to correct the errors, but if the election fell within that time period, it took some extra work to cast a provisional ballot. In other words, they were throwing up barriers in the effort to discourage voting. You know that disabled, infirm and elderly people are far more likely to give up and get discouraged BECAUSE of the effort to fix any problems becomes almost insurmountable.
The other Republican tactic is to close polling places in areas where people are poor and indigent AND DON'T DRIVE and don't have driver's licenses. Those same areas also tend to be populated with minorities who typically vote Democratic. They are far less likely to have the means to travel to far off polling places, and thus usually end up being unable to cast a vote. Maybe both parties ought to quit playing dirty politics when it comes to registering people to vote?

No, automatic as in "you're a US citizen, you're 18, you're registered."
Either way it's hilarious that Republicans recognize that due to their looming demographics crisis they flat-out can't win without rigging the game for themselves in every possible way.

Either way, hopefully Trump's constant woman-bashing name-calling speeches and bullyfest putdown rallies will get every woman out there so pissed off, they'll go out and vote against every Republican out there purely for spite.

Right. Republicans can't import new voters like democrats can. (Or raise them from the dead.)

No, Republicans can't fabricate more white racist Boomers, the only people their policies appeal to. Just how many Millennials do you think identify as Republican? They have no future, and they know it, so they're rigging democracy any way they can to attempt to cling to power.
(Weekly reminder that legitimate, at-the-polls voter fraud generally doesn't exist.)

Nightshade, do you think there is any validity to the argument that Republicans are making efforts to depress Democratic turnout?

Racist democrats are trying to spread their poison to young minds and succeeding it seems. People are increasingly being told to look at skin color to judge people.

Oh, is that how you excuse it? I've never mentioned race unless responding to your supposed 'sarcasm.'

Legitimate turnout? No. Voter fraud? Yes.

You ★■◆● yourself every time you so much as hear the word "Muslim" and you're terrified of people trying to cross our border. You can't bull★■◆● us.

No. It pisses me off that people break the law and have zero respect for our sovereignty as a country.
Remember all of the huge voter fraud scandals the past few decades? Me neither. Whatever happened to Trump's vote fraud commission anyways? How did that end? I'm sure that found all kinds of shenanigans. I bet they spent a lot of time worrying about the conflict of interest where a Secretary of State is in charge of the election he is running in.
You'll have more legitimate voters disenfranchised just in North Dakota this year because of their targeted voter ID law change than there are known fraudulent votes nationwide going back decades.
It must be a coincidence this stuff always seems to effect Democratic voters the most.

If our "sovereignty" is worth more than the lives of those fleeing persecution, then we don't have the right to call ourselves a bastion of freedom. Read ★■◆●ing Emma Lazarus.
